Has anyone had their eardrum repaired? DH had a swimming pool incident in December. His eardrum ruptured and is not healing on it's own. I read up on tympanoplasty, but I'd love to hear from someone with personal experience.

His surgery is the first week of April during Spring Break.

I can't help with the surgery....other than  ...but tell me about this "swimming incident"

OWWW...sounds painful...my sister has had lots of ear troubles....but not that particular case...good luck

Bumping to see if anyone in the morning crowd can help. The swimming incident was so simple it amazes me this kind of thing doesn't happen more often. DH was under water and one of the kid's feet slapped up against his ear while he was swimming by. The pressure caused his eardrum to pop.

My dd had this done several times. She was born with "bad" eardrums and had her first repair in Sept. of '81. They don't usually last forever. there are 2 types: natural or syntheytic material. Each doctor has their own preference. The most painful thing for my dd was when they pulled the packing out. Make sure to bring painpills with you. Best of luck.:goodvibes
