Anyone had a mesh repair?

This is related to an earlier thread about prolapse repair. I was told by the urologist today that the bladder would be fixed using a mesh sling. Now all I know of mesh is that there are often complications, bad ones, and that mesh is to be avoided.

Have any of you had a mesh repair and what was your experience?

the procedure was not bad, but the benefits only lasted about 1 year.

My mum's just had her second one. Her first lasted 20 years. At 70, and with the improvements they've made to the procedure, she's hopeful this one will last her the rest of her life.

It's day sugery - she went in that morning and we got her home that evening. My main advice would be to follow your doctor's orders for recovery exactly (no lifting anything, rest, etc).

My mum's fully recovered now, with - as far as I know - only one minor post surgical issue that she's resolving with her urologist. The biggst issue and the reason she got the mesh in the first place, has been completely fixed. So she's very happy. :)

my mom just had this one on march 14th.
she too was concerned about the mesh.
she was told that it was a different type of mesh than you hear about on the commercials telling you to call a lawyer.
she was also told that even the old mesh was safe but you had to be the right candidate for it but dr's were just willy nilly putting it in everyone.

my mom is doing great.
she's been out and about a number of times since the surgery and will be able to drive again this coming monday and then will be able to stand for longer periods of time and bend/lift at 6 weeks post op.

I had a bladder lift done with a mesh sling about 10 years ago. It was the best thing I ever did for myself. It was day surgery and I was even able to have it under IV sedation, not general anesthesia as my doctor was willing to let me try it that way so I felt great right afterwards. I never had any pain - just used a pillow when I had to sit up and only then had mild discomfort. I was out of work for a week - probably could have used a bit more time off but only so I didn't have to sit so long. The sling is still working for me and it allowed me to do a lot more exercising, including my favorite Zumba, without worrying about leakage.

I had mine about 8 years ago. About a week later I caught a cold and started sneezing. At that moment I realized that the surgery worked well. No more leakage. I was very happy that I had the procedure done
