Anyone got a new Astra?

I've got a new Astra SXi 1.7 CDTi as a hire car for work.

On the steering wheel on the left hand side there is a little thumb wheel and two other little switches - I haven't a clue what thet are for and daren't press them in case it's an ejecter seat or something

It's not the stereo buttons, becasue they are on the right hand side, abd the cruise control buttons are on left hand stalk.

Anyone any clues?

I have a laguna and a little wheel is for forwarding/reversing cd's - don't know if this helps (would like it to be noted won't be held responsible if that wheel does turn out to be an ejector seat!!)

Well, I have been driving my new Astra since December, but havent even tried these buttons before, so to amusement of my neighbours, I have just gone and sat in the car........................started it up....................and pressed away ................after flying through the sunroof and landing on the roof, I can definatly say IT IS the car seat eject button.




Seriously though the wheel moves between the car cd system and the onboard computer sysytem, the top button changes it over to the radio and the bottom button selects different radio channels and frequencys.

I don't have a company car but regularly use hire cars for business so I am a "serial fiddler" as it were

Not had an Astra recently but is there on on-board display or the like ? The wheel could control the dash lighting.

The switches could be for re-setting options on the display or wiper speed.

(Oh - the good old boys at the rental firm didn't have the car I wanted - so they turned up with a Merc E270 Avantegarde auto) with more knobs and buttons you could shake a very big stick at!

Bonzo - I keep hoping the rental company run out of 'ordinary' cars when I go off on business - but I always seem to end up with an Astra or Focus

I did get a Vectra once, although wasn't too fussed with it.

One thin I hate about the Astra is the indicater and wiper cntrol stalks - they are not like normal cars. They have a 'momentary' action and just spring back when you push them - very confusing!

I guess I'm lucky, a colleague ended up with a Skoda! I know they are now built by VW and are tons better than they were - but the embarrasment of having on on the drive would be too much LOL
