Anyone gone with Make-a-Wish or know lots about it?

Does anybody know of a family who has taken a "wish cruise"? Also, if Orlando is your child's wish, can you stay onsite at WDW?
I have heard of a child whose wish was a cruise (although I can't remember anyone posting about one).
I have seen posts from people who stayed onsite as part of their wish. I think I remember they had less days staying at an onsite resort than they would have gotten offsite.

My daughter has her MAW trip this November and we are very excited.

I am always seeking info on what to expect on our trip at the parks and at GKTW so if anyone would like to share their experiences with me please email me or add a reply here. Thanks so much!

My boys had their MAW trip this past November. They are also in wheelchairs and have medical needs. I would be happy to answer any questions you have. :)

Our GKTW villa was wonderful and I loved the accessible bathroom--it was huge! Made bathing the boys so easy. We requested a bath chair ( and hospital bed) from MAW to help with this. You can have breakfast and dinner at the restaurant or get a carry out order. We did this at dinner so my oldest could lay down and rest at the villa. Be sure to plan time for all the activities they have at GKTW. They will give you a daily newsletter. The staff and volunteers are great! If you need anything, just ask. They were very helpful when we had a car problem.
I can't remember if this was mentioned, but wanted to let you know about the first aid stations at all the parks. If your daughter needs a break out of her chair , etc they have cubicles with cots. We did this at least once a day so the boys could lay down and rest for an hour. We also did tube feedings and took care of bathroom needs here.
This trip was so wonderul that we are hoping to go back! Wishing you a magical trip! :wizard:

Hi I am not sure exactly what info I am looking for but perhaps someone can help me out. My mother and I are taking a 14 year old(very young 14 y o I might add) on our Sept. trip. A little girl she knew- Jade (3) who participated in a MAW trip passed away sadly yesterday. She now wants to travel to the GKTW village to see Jade's name and say goodbye. I have a couple of issues with this, and please I hope no one takes this as being insensitive or coldhearted.- the first one being the biggest, money- as in all the money we had we spent on the Disney package and taking this little girl with us- we won't have transportation and I don't see how we could get any.. I mean we are REALLY going down with less than $10.00 a day spending money between the three of us( free dining) Secondly I am unsure that this would actually help her with her healing process. Thirdly I don't know if GKTW would want a sobbing 14 y o and entourage running around the villas which I assume are ment to be a relaxing atmosphere. Jerri's heart is in the right place but she has been fairly sheltered and is visibly upset when she sees people who are suffering. I was thinking maybe in lieu of the trip there (to GKTW) we could collect up all of our resort soaps and send them there as a donation. Does anyone have any ideas for me that would help me make a positive spin on contributing to the cause without an actually journey there? Please any help appreciated.

You might want to write a letter to Guest Relations at Disney and also to GKTW. I am thinking somehow they might be able to arrange transportation to/from your resort to the village to pay respects to this child. I'd doubt the soaps could be used as a donation to the village but perhaps could be packaged up for a local children's hospital in your hometown. There used to be someone on the boards that we could send our soaps/shampoos to for that purpose. I would think this sort of thing has been done before and I'm sure GKTW would know how to best handle the situation for all concerned. I also think it's great that this 14 y.o. is thinking of someone else- not always what's on the mind of a teen.---Kathy

A big part of the problem is that with Jerri's emotional problems I am not sure an actual visit to the Village would be a good idea. I will talk to her children's aid worker about it, but being the one travelling with her I have reservations. The added problem with transportation is that my mother and I are both reliant on scooters. I was really hoping someone might have ideas that she could do WITHOUT us having to use a parkday and of course there is a distinct possibility of ending up with a suicidal teenager in another country (we are Canadian). I guess that sounds harsh but this kid needs a chance to be a kid! She has never had that- she wears the weight of the world on her shoulders and that is the whole reason we want to take her with us, so we can show her some magic. She will be attending the funeral and is spending time with Jade's family today. She told me she thinks Jade died because she forgot to pray the night before. I am asking for suggestions to help Jerri do something for other children in Jade's position without her having to leave "a happy state of mind".
