We live in Tampa and are going Home to our DVC to get away from Ivan. Yes it could turn and hit Orlando again, but I think it will be the lesser of two evils. Anyone else going to be there?

This is something that never occured to me until when we were trying to check into PoPC after Charley hit...

As we were checking in (the checking line was VERY long), I overheard several conversations from Floridians who take refuge in the resorts... 1) Because most of the buildings were built to withstand strong winds.. 2) Disney had power, when the majority of Orlando did not, and 3) Disney had water and refridgeration...

I know it makes common sense, but it was just one of those things you just don't realize the scope of it until you see it...

Someone mentioned a radio show they heard where the disc jockey had been staying at WDW during Charley. They said the next time a hurricane heads to florida everyone should take shelter at WDW because of all of the reasons mentioned above.

If it were me, I would get on I95 and head north until I hit Maine.

We are supposed to arrive tomorrow would you go if you we us? We are coming from KY.

Well since I am due to arrive tomorrow also and did not cancel I guess you know my answer. YES!

But I am sure you'll get plenty of people who say no. I think it comes down to each of us doing what we feel we're most comfortable with. I can't reschedule in the near future (although I do have a trip planned for January that's not "near" enough!), and this is a much needed getaway for me and my kids. If a couple of days are washouts I can live with that. As has already been pointed out WDW is made to withstand storms of this kind. I don't think my family will be in danger except possibly of being bored for a day or so. We're taking dvd's, video tapes and a number of games in case we're resort bound for any length of time. And some candles and flashlights just in case!

I do think this is another advantage to DVC. If I was in my "old" standard room at the Poly it would be a lot less comfortable to be "stuck" in than the 1BR at BWV. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed and we'll make the best of whatever happens.
