If anyone is going to Disney soon and would be willing to help me out - I would REALLY appreciate it. My son is supposed to start kindergarten in just over a week. Just found out he's having his tonsils out the same week, so he's going to miss the first week of kindergarten. He is SO upset (about both, surprisingly!). I would be willing to send a check ahead of time for someone to find anything special "from Mickey Mouse" they could send to him? We're going to WDW the beginning of November, and I'm hoping to keep his mind on the happy things coming up, rather than the not-so-happy ones.

I would be eternally grateful if anyone is able to help. Thanks so much!

Kim

What are you looking for?
I plan to be at Epcot sometime Monday and Thursday. (pins :rolleyes1  )
Too bad I did not know it sooner. I was in an outlet store tonight. :goodvibes
But I don't know kids very well. So may not be the best choice.

perhaps the poster here "feralpeg" could put something together (although i do not know if she ships) as she does beautiful baskets to send to the resorts... another option might be www.disneyflorist.com (if you cannot get a poster here to help out, w hich i am sure you can!)

my kids had their tonsils/adenoids out (both kids on the same day) and their recovery period was minimal... i hope the same for your ds!

um disneyflorist will only work within the resorts I believe...

for disney I do reccommend Peggy's sweets -

But the OP is hoping that someone going now, will help her out -

Have you looked thru disney direct?? I am shocked how fast they deliver!! I order 3 pins and shorts, Thursday, and they were here today ( no special delivery charges!!)

How soon do you need? I'll be there from 8/24-8/27.

I'm better with girls than boys (no kids of my own yet, and I have 3 nieces!), so if you can give me some pointers and I'm not going too late, I'm game...

Me too... there from 8/20-8/28... always looking for a reason to shop!! And i will be there solo... so.. pm me if you are in need of my services!

Kathy

We'll be there next month (9/20-25) - but I'd be happy to be a fairy godmailer if you'd like me to send him a postcard! Just PM me his name, favorite character/s and your address and we can send him a "can't wait to see you!" card from his favorite character to get him excited about his own trip - I have an almost 4 year old and he loves that kind of thing. I would be more than happy to do that for you.

laughingplace.com has lots of WDW merchandise, too. I ordered some pins for DH for Valentine's Day last year and surprised him.

Feel free to PM if you like.

PM me your address and your son's name. He will receive something in the mail from Mickey soon.

That is so sweet! You just spread such kindess to others! What a wonderful person you are! You definately do have tink flying through your window..hehe

OP- It is so good to get this done now! Trust me, mine was put off til I was 18 years old. I had them out 2 weeks before Thanksgiving and I was just misreable. I was so sick and hurt so bad I could not eat at all. The dr said I should have had it done so much sooner as it makes it so much easier on you. Hope he recovers fast and enjoys his gift from Mickey!

hi,
well i will be in wdw in oct about 50 days away.if nothing can be done sooner i don't mind helping.let me know.i look foward to helping others.

I am leaving on Thursday and will be there for 10 days. I'm always happy to have a reason to shop and to bring a little pixie dust to a child's day. If you already have someone to send a gift, I would also be happy to be a Fairy Godmailer and send a postcard. Just PM me your son's favorite characters and address. I hope his surgery goes well and that he has a speedy recovery.

WOW - you guys are awesome!!! :earseek:

I am SO grateful for everyone's help. He will be so happy thanks to all you wonderful DISers. He's going to get postcards, too - the kid is going to forget about how sad he is. If any of you need anything - please let me know!

THANK YOU!!!

Not going to WDW :guilty: but I thought I'd give you and your son some encouragement about the surgery.

My DD4 just had her tonsils out on Monday. She is totally back to normal and it's only been 6 days. She did absolutely wonderful. I know all kids are different, but the hard part with her was keeping her on the couch and quiet for the first few days. She didn't understand why she couldn't be up and running around because she felt so good. I really believe the key is to drink, drink, drink. She was drinking from the time she left recovery. The other little girl in her room didn't want to drink or eat anything and she didn't seem to recover as quickly that first day--in fact my daughters surgery was after hers, but we got to go home earlier in the day than the other girl because DD was drinking and eating jell-o. Just my advice--hope everything goes well.

Just wanted to share that I strongly agree with this. I had mine out this summer at 38 and it was no picnic. Best of luck to your son.

If you send me your son's name & address
email me at chaoscent@verizon.net
I am going 9/5 - 9/11. I am going to the outlets so I could pick him something up. Or just send him a postcard from his favorite character? Also, if you want, I can send him a pin from the pin celebration?
Something to keep him mind occupied, if only for a little while. There's a thread about tshirts and there are some very cool tshirts for little ones (MidNight just posted an Incredibles one). He could help pick out some designs and the two of you can make them together. Him giving you the directions while lying about & you doing all the work. :rotfl:
Anyway, just a thought. Penny aka Chaos Cent

OHHH, I hate to be the party pooper but....

I think it is great that everyone is offering to bring some magic to your son but please remember this is the internet and be very cautious about mailing out your address along with your childs name.

I'm a pre-school teacher and tend to be rather protective when it comes to the kids.

Maybe, as an alternative, you can even order something from the Disney Catalog or Laughing Place and have it mailed to your home. I would even shop myself if it was my child and send a card along w/the gift to personalize the situation.

JMHO.

But, I do think you are all gracious for wanting to help out.

:flower: :flower:

Leaving August 26 and I am sure that my best friend and I (both Mickey fanatics) could find something really special. ::MickeyMo

If you want us to pick something up just PM me or her (xxDisneyDancerxx) :)

The internet caution cuts both ways!

You can order something form DisneyDirect.com. Great prices!
Good luck to the little guy, he's adorable. As a Mom whose son battled cancer (and won) this is small potatoes, he will be bouncing around in a few days. I had mine out at 7 (when they didn't even have anesthesia!) :rotfl: Just kidding.
Just have the ice cream ready!

ooh, i just thought of a bit more pre-tonsilectomy advice... ice pops... not ice cream... not red ('cause you will think it's blood when they spit up a bit)... lighter colors are better (we found "ghost pops" w/mystery flavors that were white in color... perfect!)... and LOTS of them... my kids also enjoyed chicken soup and slurpees... i will agree 100% that the child that eats pops and drinks asap out of surgery (while in recovery) will do better... ds had three ice pops downed before dd would even touch one... she took a lot longer to recover (but still only a few days!)...

my other advice is a bit um, unpleasant, but really helpful... he will suffer some discomfort over the days that follow... getting tylenol or motrin into him will be no easy task... we found that acetominephen suppositories (ask your pharmacist, they are sold over the counter but are not stocked on the shelves) worked like a charm! kept the discomfort in check, the fever under control... really a blessing... i'm glad someone recommended them to me!

good luck and :grouphug: for you and your son!

I just wanted to say that in this day and age when it’s usually all about me that there are people like all of you that has offered to help out and not ask for anything in return. The disboards have acted like a family, to take care of each other. I hope your son does all right.
