Anyone going Geocaching this weekend? **NEW CACHERS...POP IN!**

The person with the log on the huge snake told the organizer of this trip that it was a 6' long black snake. :earseek: He also mentioned quick sand in those woods. :earseek: That sealed the deal for me NOT to go. LOL! He's also military. If he thinks it's a huge snake, that would probably be "monsterous" to the rest of us!

I haven't seen anything about that movie. I'll have to go look. Thanks!

DFIL picked up DS this morning to spend the day with him, DMIL and DNephew1. I decided to take the opportunity to get out and go GCing, since DS was going to be out of the house and DH is at work.

Found one (GC1KEDW) pretty easily. Whoever had found it last had just shoved it back into it's spot and didn't even bother to cover it up. So after I signed the log and left my item in the cache, I shoved it back into the spot it was supposed to be in and covered it back up with leaf litter.

There was another one I looked for (GC1KAH5) which, being a small(not micro..coffee can sized) cache, I'd be able to find it easily right? Got to GZ..poked around for about 20 min. Tried another spot. Poked around. Tried a THIRD spot close to GZ..still no cache. So I logged it as a DNF.

Congratulations on your find! :magnify:

We rarely luck out and find a cache rehidden like that one. Enjoy it! :teeth: Sounds like you did a great job placing it back.

Sorry you couldn't find the other cache you searched for. It stinks when there's a hint and it still can't be found. Maybe you will find it on your next trip back! :) That park looks nice!! There's about 6 caches there. I'd have to search for "Illuminate" myself. :lmao: Sometimes I have to search for one based on the name of it alone. That would be one of them. LOL! Hope you had fun!! :yay: :yay: :yay:

P.S. On your DNF, it might help to look at past logs. Maybe something someone posted can actually help find a cache. I see one person mentioned the letter "L". Hmmm. :cool2: Anything around there with an L or in an L shape? Of course, I could be reading too much into it. LOL! Doesn't seem like it would make sense on its own in their log.

You could always e-mail a previous (recent) finder or the owner and ask for an additional hint. :flower3:

I really love that park and they're making a lot of improvements right now..adding a new concession stand and restroom facilities and improving the soccer fields. At first, I wasn't sure I was going to be able to get down to where the second one (the DNF) was because there were a lot of construction vehicles going in and out. Then I saw a guy drive down to the boat ramp with his truck so I figured it was ok.

Andbabymakesthree ~ I looked at the DNF cache page and someone posted to "Read the description!". The name of the cache is Trirock, so it would definitely have something to do with 3 rocks. Decrypt the hint if you need help and haven't done so already. I thought it might have been muggled but someone placed a TB in it after you were there.
Anyway, welcome to Geocaching! This is a great family sport. We've been caching for about 5 years and our dogs love to go with us. We have been to parks we never would have known existed if it weren't for geocaching.

Sandy ~ On Wednesday we headed down to a cache near Beverly, NJ. It is a duplicate of one of our micros, although it is placed a little differently. A couple cachers did ours and one of them was so impressed she asked me how to make one. I actually made it and sent it to her. She gave it a difficulty of 5 (ours is 4) and she has had quite a few DNF's the past week since she placed it. We found it quickly but only because we knew what we were looking for. We're hoping to get out more now that the weather is getting nicer.

Good caching everyone!

Have you all heard about the geocaching related movie??? Check out the website FINDMETHEMOVIE. I have mixed feelings about it, I think it will be interesting tosee, but...will people start being stupid and doing things to caches? They are actually one of the sponsors for our Mega event here.

Just checked that out. I'm really surprised Groundspeak is allowing that. :confused3

Glad to hear you have a good park there, sdarwkcabemanmy. Definitely think about the tiles of caches and check the hints if you have trouble. I check the hints all the time any way. :) Why make it harder? ;)

Beverly, NJ...another town I'm unfamiliar with. :) Since I'm long gone, there are a lot of towns I've never known about. Then throw in towns that have been renamed. :faint: Like West Paterson. It's still West Paterson to me. :) You definitely lucked out by knowing what you were looking for!

I haven't had luck with the website for that movie. It's my computer.

The hint say something about 3 rocks. HOWEVER..in the area where the cache is, there are MORE than 3 rocks. There are TONS of rocks..giant bigger-than-your-head sized rocks, little rocks, medium sized rocks. So looking for just a set of 3 rocks together is a bit misleading since there are rocks all over.

I've got the coords for some other caches within the park so I'm going to check them out on Monday after I drop DS off at school.

Hmmmmm, I guess the name and hint aren't much help then! Maybe there are three rocks that are marked in some way or something. You might want to sit down and give your GPSr a few minutes to zero in. That helps with ours sometimes. You'll probably get it next time!
Good caching!

I'd go back and try that cache again. If I still couldn't find it, I'd be e-mailing anyone for another hint. But I would keep in mind that it's three rocks, not three boulders. Size would make a difference to me.

Have fun! :magnify:

I recently got the bug to try geocaching and started researching GPS devices. The number of choices and feature options is overwhelming. Two Garmin models seem suitable and fit my budget. Can anyone comment on the xTrex Vista HCx ($210 @ WalMart) and the Colorado 300 ($250 @ Costco)?

Thanks for any insight

I haven't used either of those GPSs. I do know of someone that has had a Colorado for a number of months now, and he loves it! On the trail one day I came across someone who had a new Oregon. That GPS is NEAT!! Lots of cool stuff on there. I hope someone else here has some experience with those you're looking at and can help. :magnify:

I have played around some with the Colorado and I liked it. I still love my Garmin 60 CSX the best.

We just got back from our BIG mega event. We had a GREAT time. There were over 100 brand new caches in about 6 miles. We got 12...thats it...12. It was wet, and cold, and wet, and windy, and wet, and snowy at times, and did I mention WET! It was just oo much for us to go caching in. Still had a great time and I won a copy of the new Find Me movie! yeah...Can't wait to get it in!

You must have been too busy working to go caching, lilallybean! :wizard: You will have to plan a return trip to get the other 88 new caches. :teeth: How is the movie?

We've had gorgeous weather the last few days. We took a geocaching trip up to Colonial Beach. I got a kick out of it when I got an e-mail from the owner of the last cache we found on our way home. We picked a few caches up on the drive up there and back. This owner asked if someone put a bunch of caches out in Colonial Beach. He said they didn't have any when they were up there a couple months ago. He said he grew up there! :) I had a bunch of fun, and darling son put up with it. He's a good trooper. I'm hoping to get out to Richmond tommorow. It seems the only decent caching days any more are when we're on a break from school and work.

Anyone else bummed by the new GC.com guidelines about Unknown/Mystery caches? Or pleased? LOL! Count me in for the bummed side. I archived a cache because of it and resubmitted it to fit the new guidelines. Ugh.

I have not read the news about the cache changes. Will have to TRY and find time for that soon. I don's have the movie yet, I have to send in a code card thing to get it. I actually just got an email saying I have been selected to be a 'geo rep' for the show! Not sure what that really means, but hey....it sounds cool!:woohoo: The area geocaching group has its spring picnic next weekend. I was crazy enough to say I would host it...my first big event like this to host, and I am lost! :confused3 Then two weeks later I am hosting the area WWFM....now that I enjoy! :grouphug:

Sounds like you had fun caching! I wish we were in an area with more caches. I have to drive at least an hour to do more than 3-4 caches.

Anyone going to GW7 next month? Heard a tornado tore up Murfreesboro pretty good today. Deaths & injuries. :sad1:

The new guidelines aren't a problem up there. We seem to play a pretty simple basic fair version up here compared to other parts of the country. Can't think of maybe even 5 caches that have ALRs and people don't go around deleting logs just to play authority on people and people don't log caches they really didn't find. We've cached all over the country and we see it played differently everywhere we go. I think its why the numbers are lower up here. Our caches are longer walks. Way more spread out. And back to the basic about "bringing you to a place I wanted to share with you". Not about shoving a 35mm under every Walmart lamppost skirt.

No one seems upset or bothered by the rule change. We had an event and I think I was about the only one who even knew about it. LOL

We enjoy gc ... fun to do when you have to kill some time before/after an event. Like at after a wedding but before the reception.

Dannyh...That sounds like a great time for geocaching. :goodvibes Have fun!

lilallybean...You will have to let us know how the movie is when you've seen it. Have fun with the picnic and the WWFM! Wow! LOL! You may not have too many caches right in your area, but you sure do know how to throw events! :teeth: I'm sure your picnic will be great! Have you checked out any other cache pages for picnics? I know in VA we have the Richmond Rally coming up in June. They're busy planning all sorts of things. Also, Geocaching Hampton Roads does theirs every Labor Day weekend. Might be able to find past pages of theirs. They had a great little contest last year. Throwing ammo cans. LOL! :lmao: Put your feet apart, swing the ammo can back and forth, then let it go and throw! :lmao: It was funny to watch. Richmond Rally picked up on that one and is doing it at their picnic this year. Lots of good stuff.

OctMtnWoods...I'm sure you're in an area where the long walks are gorgeous! We have a number of ALRs around here. I've always had fun with them or I wouldn't do them. :) Of course, some seem ridiculous, and I have no problem skipping them and letting others do them. It's a shame the fun ones are going away with those that seem to be a real problem. The problem ones shouldn't have been approved in the first place. We have one around here that has a puzzle to work. It comes up with a specific word for an answer as well as giving you numbers along the way for the coordinates. The word had to be used in your online log. It was too funny reading how people used the word in their logs! It was entertaining. Guess I'll be taking that one off my watch list soon. :headache:

Hey all. I still haven't gone geocaching, just letterboxing, but hopefully I'll have enough money to buy a GPS soon.
My friend has a car GPS, so we might give it a try.
I'm in the Nashville area, so I'd be interested in GeoWoodstock.
Can someone explain to me what it is? I looked at it on the geocaching website, but it just tells about the town - not about what the event will be like.

I don't think the tornado hit Bell Buckle - where the event is - just nearby Murfreesboro. I saw on the site where some people are concerned about their hotel reservations, but the photos I've seen so far are of the damage are more residential areas.
