Anyone going Geocaching this weekend? **NEW CACHERS...POP IN!**

A couple within walking distance of Phoca Vitulina that haven't made it to his list yet...

GC13MN5
GC148HZ (I haven't had luck with this one yet!)

Sandee...WTG on getting to 1599! We are at 623 right now. The price of gas is really slowing us down. No trips to the city just for caching and we have got all but some REALLY difficult puzzles in our area. :faint: I just can't seem to get them figured out.
Our cache is GC1AJZV. We made the cache by buying the largest planter that we could find at our Wal~Mart. It looks like a fancy heavy decorated pot, but it is actually more like a heavy foam. There was a small lip on the inside of the pot. DH cuy a piece a plywood that lay right on this lip. We drilled a whole right in the center and stuck the end of a large fake fern down inthe hole and bolted it into place. We then took some fake ivy and spanish moss and used a staple gun to cover the plywood. we secured two handles to lift the top off. The cache of course is under the lid. We were able to fit a nice size file box inside. We are getting some reports of it getting wet inside the box so we need to change that some. I have to say that it turned out really good. It looks so real! It fits in perfect at the flower shop! The owners love giving us reports each time they say us and have enjoyed watching the hunt. :hyper:

LOL! That must be something, lilallybean! You did a great job!   I'm sure the owners of the flower shop get a good laugh when people hunt for it. :teeth:

I'm with you on the gas. It's keeping us from venturing too far. I'm still debating about going to Richmond this weekend for their annual picnic at the state park. We've gone the last two years and had a fantastic time. Will have to see about that.

Good luck on the puzzle caches! They're one of my favorite types of caches. I think I've done one of Lego Fans puzzles. Sheesh! His are killers. We have people here in the military who take his puzzles to their neighbors that are in the military and crack codes. LOL! :teeth: I don't quite feel so bad in that case.

Anyone have an event coming up? :magnify:

lilallybean: That sounds like a great cache! I hope you get the water problem worked out.

Sandee: Thanks for the cache info. Right now, it looks like Busch Gardens is probably out unless we do that Saturday, the day after the wedding. We might be carpooling down with DD and her DH and they probably can't travel down before Thursday. I don't know if we'll even have time for caching! I think we'll be staying at the Navy Lodge in Little Creek and the wedding will at First Landing State Park. I'll have to check for caches there as we'll probably head over to check that out before the wedding. I hope you get # 1600 soon!

No caching yesterday and probably not today, either. We got to babysit DGD in the morning and then worked on a plumbing project inside due to an excessive heat/humidity warning. It looks like the heat/humidity will be around for a few days and we might break a temperature record each day.

That's about it. Good caching!

Any time! :teeth: First Landing has a number of caches. There's even one along Shore Drive at a little pull-off on the side of the road...no bush whacking at that one! I think it's KV-15 or something like that. It's one of GeoGeorges' caches. And there are a few around Little Creek. Hopefully, you can get a couple caches...if you remember to take your GPS. ;) What a beautiful park for their wedding! And a lot of history there, too!

Thanks! I'm still holding out for George and Martha for #1,600. :teeth: I'm with you...we didn't go caching at all this weekend. I ran to the food store at 9 yesterday morning. But DS went to a state park on the Eastern Shore today with a buddy and his family. They all wore sunscreen, and they all came home looking like lobsters! :( Yesterday I saw 101 degrees at 5 p.m. ICK! And today it's been up to 99. If it was any higher, I missed it. What is with this heat?

:magnify:

No caching for us this weekend either. Too dang hot and this was the weekend of the big event for our little town: Country Days! My best friend that I went to DL with was thrilled to have her daughter winthe title of Country Days-Little Miss.
I did go to a flea market today and I found an OLD ammo box. I need to think of something creative to do with this one.
I can't wait to hear more about the George and Martha cache. make sure you give us the details!

lilallybean...Congratulations to your friend and her daughter! Awesome!

Have fun with that ammo box. Can't wait to hear what you come up with. ;)

Will update on George and Martha when it's up and running...and we find it! ;)

We definitely did not go to Richmond Rally 5 yesterday. I think almost every person that attended commented about the weather in their logs. Or that the Richmond people should get an A/C for next year. LOL!

Happy caching! :magnify:

Went hiking today, found one of two caches. Second time I was stumped by the one I can't locate.

Spent the afternoon hiking and geocaching with the Queen and the Princesses.

Hi, Jeff! :wave2: Welcome! :teeth:

What GORGEOUS pictures!! Congratulations on your find. That's great! We have a few caches we've been to and can't find also. Even on a return trip. But I suppose we'll find them eventually.

Hope you and your family are having fun with this.

Happy caching! :magnify:

I was playing around with my Garmin 405 that I use for running, and realize you can input coordinates for Geocaching!

Go into the GPS menu, and you can set your N & W coordinates. Worked great on two caches we just found. :thumbsup2

:woohoo:

Any GPS that can lead you to a cache is good. :teeth: A few months ago I got one for the car. Wow! What a difference! I sure don't miss the shuffling of papers to find my way places.

Anyone been to any events or have any coming up? We had one last weekend. Had a lot of fun. And only used a little over 1/4 tank of gas!   We have a camp fire event and then the annual picnic at our local city park Labor Day weekend. Looking forward to that! :magnify:

What kind of car GPS did you get? I hope that my family will take the hint and get me one for my birthday! We have not gotten out to do much caching lately. How can life ALWAYS be so busy?:confused3 Hope everybody is having a good summer!:hippie:

I have a Garmin Nuvi 360. Bought it at Overstock.com and it works great! Should have gotten one long ago. :goodvibes Keep hinting to your family...it's really worth it!

Hope you get time to go caching soon! :magnify:

I am off to the city with my DD (9) to see the plastic surgeon. She had a bad laceration to her face (just above her right eye) a couple weeks ago. The doctor at our local ER did an AWFUL job closing it up, so I demanded they send her to get it taken care of....at their cost! Anyway...I sure did hint how it would be nice to have a GPS that could give me turn by turn instructions since we are going all the way up there, roads are closed due to flooding, other roads closed for construction....lets see what happens!:confused3

Went out with the keiki after dinner, and found 3 caches within 3 blocks of each other. It took us about 20 minutes to gather them all.

Do you have a laptop?
Do you have Garmin Mapsource software & a Garmin GPS?

If you do, download Garmin's nRoute software to laptop (free) & connect GPS to laptop with USB cable. The software acts as a larger GPS screen & can talk & provide you with turn by turn instructions. We used it on a 2 wk geocaching trip in CA / NV & even loaded all the caches into it so we could see what was coming up ahead. (they were in the GPS too) but it was just easier to see/use on the laptop along with navigation. Of course, I also had GSAK on the laptop with 3000 caches loaded so we could just read the cache page too to decide if we were stopping or not.

We have a Garmin 60cs which navigates, but nroute was just easier to manuever around in.

Caching with a laptop is my new addiction.

Hope all turned out well with your daughter, lilallybean! You would think the ER doc would have called in a Plastic Surgeon. :confused3

Jeff...Congratulations on your recent finds!   That's my kind of caching. :teeth:

I've never had luck with the batteries on my lap tops lasting any decent length of time. Never bothered to take them caching for that reason. :( Am I missing a cable that will connect the lap top to the cigarette lighter?

:magnify:

Hello gang! Emily is doing just fine. Three hours after seeing the plastic surgeon Emily was in surgery. It never should have been this big of an issue. If the ER doctor had just put a few tiny stitches in she would have been good to go. I am now in contact with an attorney, not sure what will happen, but the fact that she had to undergo surgery for such a minor problem is not right!
I hate to admit this but I STILL cache with papers. I just can not get the hang of the paperless method. I try and try, and still end up confused and not getting it.
Well, off to work...have great day everyone!

You get a power invertor & plug that into the cigarette lighter. Then you can plug anything into the power invertor. We have a Kensington power invertor I got off ebay for $30. I can plug laptop AC cord, PDA's USB cable & GPS's cigarette power cord all into the invertor. Although I don't need the PDA if I have the laptop. Just saying I could if I wanted to.

lilallybean...Glad Emily is okay! :goodvibes What did the ER doc do? A butterfly instead? Staple? :faint: Don't think they'd staple in an area like that. Curious since when DS was small, an ER doc did a butterfly right by his eye. Said at DS's age at the time, stitches would have made it too traumatic. He was about 3. He still has the scar.

Splsh...Interesting! I'll have to check that online. Thanks! :woohoo:
