Anyone getting the Kindle Fire???

Another Chirstmas present here (for myself ). I pre-ordered one about a week ago. I had considered the Kindle for quite awhile but wasn't sure I would get as much use out of it as I hoped. The email, internet, and video features of the new Fire won me over. I don't have internet on my phone so this is a nice compromise (wish it had the free 3G though).

Has anyone else changed their minds today with the Barnes and Noble's new Nook tablet? We cancelled our pre orders this morning in favor waiting to see which ends up being the better tablet.

I have one preordered ~ I am a prime member and I like the movies and TV shows to watch for free. I already have a Kindle and LOVE it!

I'm not expecting the Fire to be anything like an iPad and I really don't want an iPad at this point ~ I'm happy with my iPhone at this point

I just ordered 3....one for my son, one for my daughter, and one for me! I was saving for the Ipad, but just couldn't justify spending the money. The Kindle fire is much more affordable for us.

I have a fire pre-ordered. My question is, can family members share a prime membership, use it on more than one Kindle?

From what I understand you can't. or at least the free once a month book lending would only be good for 1 book.

Our reason for cancelling our preorder is that in researching the Nook tablet my dh discovered that the operating system takes up 2 of the 8GB memory which is not expandable. So basically it would have less memory available than my iphone.

I'm anxious to see what everyone thinks of the fire when it comes out. DD is not sure if she might want one, but I think it would be great for her. I have a regular Kindle (special offers) and I love it and I also have an ipad1 which I also love. I use them both and think it would be really cool to kind of merge them into one device. I'm considering buying one of those as a gift but feel a little strange giving someone a gift that comes with commercials. How distracting are the special offers?

I want one. I mentioned it to my husband so hopefully I'll get one for Christmas.

The only thing is I do have a kindle and it works just fine so I may see if I can pass that on to one of my kids if I get the Fire.

I just read about both of these(Kindle Fire & the newest Nook) this morning in the WSJ,they say that the Nook is actually the better deal.It has 16gb's,where the Kindle has 8.The Nook does just about everything the I-Pad does,but cost's $250 less! I wanted a Nook before,I may just get it,it's like a tablet!

I'm a techie, and I ordered the Fire the day it was announced. I love my K3 and iPad, but think the Fire will fit another function for me with magazine reading. I find it a bit difficult to do that on the iPad because of it's size. And for books the K3 is excellent. And I plan to share the Fire with my family too.

The Fire will actually arrive while we're at WDW! . I had it shipped to a friend's house, but am a little disappointed I won't be able to take it on our trip.

My DD 12 keeps going back and forth between this and the ipod touch for her Christmas list. She's always using my touch. She does also use my touchpad but not as much [probably because she knows I'll be looking for it whereas not the touch]....

I pre-ordered one...I do plan on giving her a cell phone for her 13th this winter so I think the touch wouldn't be as necessary [she texts her friends on my touch].

We have Amazon prime and netflix so that will be great too. And there are so many free kindle books. I've also read that you can convert library ebooks for kindle which would be cool.


It has lots of apps like the touch and more than my touchpad. Looks cool. And the 7" will be more portable.

I ordered the Fire. Does it have the "pinch" technology where you can shrink or increase things like the iPad? I read the description and couldn't find any info about it.

You should be fine. I ordered 3 Fires and already they show up on my Amazon account as Kindle 1-2-3. In the meantime, my current Kindle is attached to my mom's account and we both access books from it (she buys a ton and I just piggyback off of her).

I like the main screen with icons on the Ipad2 but not the size. I want something smaller to hold like the Kindle. Does the main screen have icons like the Ipad or is it like the Kindle - I held a 3G with keyboard today? I have friends who let me look at theirs at school today. I also love the price of the fire.

We ordered 2 kindle fires for our 7 and 5 year old. DH showed them one on the internet last week and they both want one.
