Hi everyone,
I have been taking vitamins/suppliments for the past three weeks, but they make me feel like crap. I always take them on a full stomach, but I get to feeling queasy about 1/2 later. I also take a second dose at night according to the plan, but I just feel like I have bad indigestion. Anyone have any suggestions? I am even willing to take them with something even if it adds a few calories. I was going to stop them altogether, but I really think I need the vitamins because I know I am not getting all I am supposed to over the course of the day.

Thanks for your help!
Kathy

Hi Kathy - sorry this is happening to you....I usually get sick to my stomach when I take regular vitamins on an empty stomach (but you take them with a full stomach). I now do the Flinstones Chewable Vitamins (which if you read the label give adults 100% of just about everything you need), and don't have any problems.

Do you usually eat the same thing?

Good Morning Kathy,

It may not be all the vitamins but one of the ingredients you are taking. Are these new vitamins for you? I discovered a long time ago that zinc gives me a very nauseous stomach. I have to be careful not only in my vitamins but also in Sucrets, etc.

Just a thought I had.

Have a great day!!

Yes!! it happens to me when I take vitamins with a high iron content, even if I take them on a REALLY full stomach. :D

Kathy, I definitely get queasy if I take any vitamins on an empty stomach. However, certain things will make me queasy even on a full stomach.

Care to give us a list of what pills you're taking? Iron is well known for creating sick tummies.

This may be a little OT, but I got sick to my stomach from my pre-natal vitamins. When I told the doctor, I expected him to remind me that nausea is part of pregnancy. But he said that the coating of certain vitamins doesn't agree with certain people. He changed to another vitamins & no more upset stomachs!

I get naseous and have vomited from the ones I was taking. I was taking the "woman's pack" with 5 different vitamins in the pack. (And I discovered this while at WDW... that was not fun)

So I went to the health food store that I purchase my low-carb stuff at and they set me up with a one-a-day that has been great for me. No queasy stomach. I would suggest going to a store that specializes in vitamins and ask them what would be best for you.

If you want, I can check the name of them when I get home and post it. But everyone is different and what their needs are.

Debbie

You've had some good suggestions already. I've discovered that it isn't having a full stomach for me, it's that I must take my vitamins with a protein meal. So if I'm doing a big salad with only trace amounts of protein for lunch, I'll wait and take my vitamins with dinner and a larger serving of meat/egg/cheese.

I too have had problems with vitamins until someone told me to try the Flinstones vitamins. I tried them and they didn't effect my stomach in any way. I even took them instead of pre-natals when I was pregnant and they worked just fine.

It may be worth a try for you.

Thanks so much everyone! I really appreciate all the advice. I usually have a slim fast chocolate shake at breakfast with a scoop of whey protien and a couple of ice cubes to make it colder and thicker. I love chocolate- but it didn't dawn on me until just now that that may be what is disagreeing with me so early in the morning along with the vitamins. It's not substanital like a regular meal, and the shake already contains a lot of vitamins and minerals. Hmmmmm :( I'll think I'll change that first, and see how it goes, or start taking the vitamins at night.

The vitamins and suppliments I am taking are a combination from the book "Balance Your Brain, Balance Your Life" by Dr. Jay Lombard & Dr. Christian Renna. This basically evaluates you at the beginning of the book through a long quiz, and tells you how the levels of dopamine and seratonin (or lack thereof) can affect your eating, moods and sleep. I was interested in this approach because I have a stressful job and tend to be emotional and a worrywart to being with. The book is very interesting. Because I tested low in both the "cooling" and "heating" levels, they suggested a certain type of diet, exercise and suppliments. So far it's working pretty well. I have lost about 6 pounds in a little over 3 weeks, and have been able to stick to the types of food they suggest. I have actually increased the exercise part.
I take a combination of Omega3 oils (EPA & DHA which are basically fish oil type capsules) B6, folate, magnesium, and a blend vitamin containing a fatty acid compound called phosphatidylserine that is basically for your brain cells and is an anti-stress suppliment.

I know, it all sounds Greek; it took me a few times reading the whole book to get it. It's helping me so I am sticking with it.:teeth:

Thanks again. I'll try switching my routine and if that doesn't work-Flintstones here I come!

Sounds like a really interesting book! I struggle with depression and would LOVE to get off my anti-depressant meds. My meds alter the way serotonin is used in the brain so the info in this book might be of value to me.

Time to go to Amazon.com.... :p Thanks for the book info!

You're welcome Doreen. I'm not a doctor, so I can't say if it will change things when it comes to your meds, but it really is very interesting. Hope it helps you!

Kathy, has the vitamin tummy problem gone away today?
