Hey - we're here at DL right now and my 5 year old DD has been throwing up for the past 2 hours. Too early to tell if it's a virus or food poisoning, but we ate at Goofy's Kitchen and Surf's Up yesterday and today. She didn't really eat all that much that the rest of us didn't that could be contaminated (except for meats like hotdogs and sausage) - but it sure seems like food poisoning, because it came on really quickly.

Anyone have any experience with food poisoning at DL?

Not from DLR food but something DBF and I ate at Tortilla Joe's didn't set well with us. It wasn't throwing up it was....worse.....lol We haven't eaten at both the buffets you mentioned and no one got sick from it....of course it could happen, or it could be excitement or rich food she's not used to eating, or a virus, either way I hope she's feeling better really soon!

I understand that vomiting is only half of the effect of food poisoning. Not sure how to write this -- and please no one take offense. If it is food poisoning the bowels will start working over time-- know what I mean and they will have a very very bad odor. Trust me VERY bad. The only way to know for sure is a stool sample. No matter if it was tainted food or not I sure hope she gets feeling better soon. You can also call one of the Hospitals and ask for information.

Happy Me :yay:

She could have picked up bacteria anywhere. Kids touch tons of stuff and stick their hands all over their faces. If no one else in your party is sick, I would assume it wasn't the buffets with good certainty.

We've never had any problem with the food at the DLR. I thought I had been told that food poisoning takes 24 hrs before it hits. :confused3 But I'm not 100%.

I'm so sorry that this has happened.......no fun to be on vacation & get a sick kid.......hope she starts feeling better quick!

Well - she has the very stinky bowels now...so I am guessing it's something she ate. I hope she's better soon, too...she has an appt. at the BBB on Friday, so I am really hoping she is better by then! It would be crushing if she missed that - it's a planned highlight!

Thanks for your good wishes...

you may want to run down the street to target and get her some pedialyte... It should help speed recovery... We always travel with a small bottle in our suitcase, or grab some from the store when we get there...

The N/V/D is going to run it's course. I'm sure you already know this but the most important thing to watch for is dehydration. If she is listless, fatigued, has dry tongue and mouth, no tears, or poor skin turgor (pinch the skin, if it 'tents' and does not relax immediately) she should go to the ED for IV hydration. Otherwise get some Pedialyte if you can and slowly give her some. Hopefully she can keep that down.

Hope she feels better soon. The trip to BBB will definitely life her spirits and make her feel like a Princess.

Since you have internet access take a few minutes and look up pood poisoning and what to look for. Not to worry you but depending on what has caused this poor little one might need antibiotics. I know so not fair. Please let the Restaurant know what she had so they can do the proper disposal. They are legally suppose to get in contact with health dept. Sad to say not all restaurants do, they just toss food and go about business. Watch for signs of E-Coli. Probably no need to worry but better safe then sorry.

Both my DH and I got food poisoning several years ago after eating a late breakfast at Goofy's Kitchen. When we were in the ER the doctor suspected it was probably from something with egg as the symptoms can present themselves within 12 hours afer eating. I think DLR does a pretty good job overall of keeping food safe, but eggs on a buffet line can sometimes be a problem.

We had to go to the ER to get fluids and meds to stop the symptoms. The doc also gave us some meds to take for the next few days. This happened 15 years ago when our DD was 1 so I don't remember what the meds were that they gave us. Thankfully we were also there with other family members who stayed with DD while we were taken to the hospital. Anyway, if your DD doesn't improve she might need to be seen by someone. She might just have a flu. In any event, getting sick at Disney is always disappointing. :sad1: I just remember feeling so horrible. What DH and I learned -- we won't eat buffets anymore.

I hope your DD feels better soon.

Not related to Disney, but I travel to Asia (Hong Kong / Taiwan) on business a lot. Have you had scrambled eggs in HK or Taiwan?

The hotel buffet breakfasts only partially cook the scramble eggs so it is more of a "raw egg soup, with chunks of scramble egg bits".

I eat it all the time and I am surprised that I have not gotten sick.

I have and I actually like my eggs a bit loose and never have gotten salmonella from them, now Malaysia is a different story. I am afraid to eat anything there anymore.

I did, from the fish at Goofy's. I had severe stomach for about 24 hours. It was terrible. Fortunately it was our last night there, but made for a pretty miserable ride home.

Just a quick update: she's not getting sick anymore! She was throwing up for about 10 hours, drank some water and apple juice around midnight and finally slept through the night from 1am - 8am. She ate some crackers and apple juice today and we're off to BBB tomorrow with renewed confidence!

She's not showing any signs of dehydration. She didn't have much coming out of the bottom end - and it was fine today, so no worries there.

I am convinced it was some sort of food poisoning. She's had stomach viruses before and they've never come and gone this quickly before.

We have reservations at Ariel's Grotto for lunch after the BBB. I am going to keep the reservation, but I am thinking she'll just eat some bread and rice and drink apple juice to play it safe.

Also - no more rides. We have one day left, so we'll probably just take in some shows and keep it a very light day.

Glad to hear she's doing better! It does sound like food poisoning with the quick entrance/departure. I hope she continues to feel well.

DH got food poisioning on a trip a couple of years ago. He thinks it was from some fish he had at Cafe Orleans. He was stuck in the hotel for the first two days of the trip, talk about a rough start to a vacation! Anyways, glad to hear your daughter is feeling better!!

Oh I'm so glad she's feeling better!!!! When you get to your table at AG let your server know she's been feeling bad, I'm sure they will be accommodating and help you find something lighter that she can eat. :)
