Anyone get dinged for having an iPad going through security?

I know you can hold devices out in front of you but I'd prefer not to with an ipad. On our arrival day I do not anticipate our room being ready before we hit the park. I do not want to leave my ipad in my luggage. I'll carry it in my park backpack.

I'm hoping I do not have to get searched because of it. My Osprey bag has a ton of tiny pockets and they have to check every single one. I know because a cheap metal mint tin set off the detector before.

I have to go thru bag search at the parks if I have my laptop with me. Not sure how it'd go with an iPad.

If you're not sure, just pull it out before going through security and hold it out in front of you. As long as nothing else sets things off you'll be fine. If it does set it off, they won't stop you as they can see it in your hand.

Will you drop your bags at the resort? If yes, each resort has a secure baggage storage area or if you really want it secured they have a Safe with deposit type boxes.

However I agree with @leebee & @scrappinginontario just take it out carry it like a book until you actually need to pass through the scanner station, and then hold it out in front of you for the seconds you need to be scanned.

I go thru with the same exact items in my bag each time for a week ... sometimes it dings for no reason. You just don't know until you go through unless you pull it out and put in front of you .. where they can see it. Odds are better if you do.

DD was always getting dinged and she has almost NOTHING in her park bag. A security guard at Disney Springs told her it's her eyeglasses case, where she either has her glasses or sunglasses. Now she holds it in front of her as she goes thru the lines and has no problem.

Bangles means no items. I don’t believe bangles can hold out items. Can anyone else confirm either way?
If you mean bagless, you just walk though without a bag to search but with something in your hand. My husband keeps his glasses case in his pocket and so goes through the metal detectors holding it out in front of him. I carry a small rucksack and try not to get searched by holding my phone, umbrella and charger out in front of me. He never gets stopped because they can see he has nothing to search. If there is someone in your party who won't have a bag, let them take your iPad through.

Really no such thing as a bagless entry with the new system (used to be) .... everyone goes through the same detectors. Only strollers or mobility devices get searched/pushed through a different entry. It won't matter who is holding it, same screening. I was pulled over for a search "for the items I was holding out in my hand". I even looked at their screen and the big orange circle was around my hand with the items extended from my body, not my bag.

There is just no guarantee where you hold anything as to whether they call you over or not. Fingers crossed that you won't be the random one without cause. And honestly other than EPCOT which seems to pull over lots of people, a search is quick.

Of course there such a thing as bagless. You just don't have a bag. I checked with my sister who was there last week and nothing has changed. If you don't have an actual bag when you walk through the detectors but hold out an item, they just wave you through. How can they search a bag that you don't have?

There used to be a bagless line and a bag line. There is no longer.

Now there is ONE line. The exception is the wheeled vehicles pushed through the side. We were just there and even the adults with the stroller had to alternate going through the ONE line. That line goes through the scanners. Everything you are carrying is scanned, in hand, in bag, in pockets, on your head. No bag doesn't mean you won't get pulled for secondary scan and/or search.

While you might not have a bag, the line is for everyone and has nothing to do with bag or bagless. Yes your sister might have gotten waived through but that does not mean everyone who is holding an item gets waived through. I was pulled over specifically for the items in my hand (not in bag). A phone and battery. Those items triggered the scanner, they showed me on the screen. Something in your pockets, something on your body/clothing, something in your hand can trigger the scanner, which puts you in the search line. Even if you have no bag they will wand scan your whole body.

While odds are good the iPad might get waived through if someone is holding out, it might not. There are no guarantees. Given I usually travel with the same exact items each day, sometimes multiple times a day, I've been pulled enough to know that sometimes it is just a random search.
