Anyone get a BITE/STING at Castaway Cay like this? (pics) **Update post #12**

After spending the day swimming at Castaway Cay, my son (2.5yrs old) had a small red circle on his arm that he said hurt him. He wouldn't let anyone touch it or hardly look at it. We went to get it looked at in the first aid building on the island as we headed back to the boat but he wouldn't let them look at it. They said that if it still hurt him later to try to get him to let them look at it on the ship.

Well he didn't complain much about it later, but still didn't want us to touch it. This is what it looked like at dinner the same day:

When we got home it was starting to go away, and disapeared. But now he has another red spot in the same spot, and he says it hurts sometimes again.
He got the bite/sting/mark on Sept 12th, its now Oct 4th, and this is what it looks like since coming back, sorry for the bad lighting pic:

Anyone know what this is? Should I take him to the doctor?

I was reading a FAQ thread talking about sea lice at castaway cay. The bites they descibed sounded like you picture. They were talking about a safe sea product to reduce the likelyhood of bites from the sea lice jellyfish before you swim.

Living on Long Island as we do, any bite with a target and bullseye (as in photo) makes us worry about Lyme's Disease....don't imagine that they have deer ticks down there but it wouldn't hurt to ask about it.

IF this is the same lesion it is over 2 weeks old and still not resolved. Yes, I think he should see a doctor ASAP.

THe thing that is troubling me is that you seem to imply that it went away and has now come back--There are just too many possibilities here...have him seen.

DD contracted Lyme when she was 3 and we lived in Mystic, CT... didn't look like this... they really were "bullseyes"! It was horrible.

Since it happened on CC I'd vote for some nasty insect that might be indigenous to the area. I got bit by a "deer cricket/yellow fly" on Saturday while gardening (in Orlando) and it looks a lot like that! (and hurts like a bugger, too!)

Just wanted to update everyone now that we are back from the Doctors.

I showed him the photos of what it looked like the 1st day and then he looked at it now, used the little light thing. Told him it started in the Bahamas in the ocean.

He said he's not sure what it is (I guess he'd need to look up what bites/stings are native to Bahemian ocean water). He gave me some steroid cream to see if it will help clear it up faster and said to "lets just see if it clears up in the next few days".

So he doesn't seem too worried about it, but if it doesn't go away, or keeps coming back, then I'll take him in again. Thanks for all your help and advice everyone. I hope this clears up with the cream and doesn't come back!
