Anyone Game? 2 Castles and a Road Trip TR! Last Day and TR Wrap Up! #2796; 10/01

I'm so disappointed I missed the Iron Man costumes :( I didn't even think about going in there.

IASW 3 times in a row? Those poor guys! :rotfl:

How did you rate Hong Kong Disney? Worth the trip?

Fabulous pictures, I feel like I was there with you :)

Glad the Star Tours monotony changed somewhat.

Thank you and Bret for the photo info!

I forgot how different the DLP version of Small World is than the DW version!! Do you have pictures of the Hong Kong version posted somewhere??

They don't have the WED way People Mover at DLP, do they?

In a world where franchise is king and convenient cookie cutter rules, you can tend to forget that behind all the predictable sameness, an original gem of an idea once prevailed.

Wow. Drop a note to the Dizzy Corp Board! Brilliant!

I don’t know if this original version had concentrated on dolls with musical instruments. But for me, it was the perfect theme for me to focus on. I certainly think that the Disneyland version has more variety and depth to the dolls on display than WDW; but the Hong Kong version has much more interesting costumes and it may be my Old Fogie memory….but I certainly think there are many more dolls in the Hong Kong version. princess::upsidedow

IASW isn't exactly my favorite attraction, but you certainly have peaked my interest! You did a marvelous job of shooting and presenting! Thank you!

:)

Saw so many things in your IASW I missed-secretly me thinks DH quite likes this ride as he's always keen to go on and snap away!! I just always think how much my dear old gran would have loved it as she had a huge doll collection and loved the old Bli Bli Castle display here in Qld - which is pretty dowdy and small in comparison!

A very nice update to the trip report.

I remember when we were in Innoventions that your DS went on over to play the Disney Infinity game when we were in that area.

It was nice to ride Indy and for the 2nd time Star Tours. When we left Innoventions and about to head on over to Indy to use our FP's we decided to get some FP's for Star Tours. We did talk about Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy but the time window was overlapping during our DISMeet with Alison.

You got great pictures from IASW. You should see IASWH where it is all decorated during the Christmas season which is amazing. I can't wait to see it next month. I do miss the original IASW before DL added Disney characters to the ride in 2009.

Thank you and Bret for the photo info!

Your welcome.

Great updates! In this day and age finding god particles, gene therapy I can't believe they still haven't come up with a method of filling up teenagers for longer than 2 hours.... This must be a gap in the market...a hat that continual feeds sweet potato fries... A jacket that dispenses burgers on the half hour.. Lol

Love Star Tours one of my favourites! I too have got the same ride on 2 occasions out of 5! I am starting to get suspicious that they aren't as random as reported... Maybe it's just us PIO. Maybe you are in fact Princess Leah...

The Indiana ride is great. That's cool you have been to HK! :-)

Did you go on a Matterhorn?

How can you go to Hungry Bear and NOT get the Fried Green Tomato sandwhich? Man, that was probably the best thing I ate a DLR. (OK - maybe the Tigger Tail.)

Being a math geek:
There are 54 possible combinations - (2 x 3 x 3 x 3)

Any combination of the first three elements is 18:1 (2 times 3 times 3).

However, the second time you go through - the odds that you will see the exact same combination does not become 324:1 (18 x 18) It actually stays exactly the same at 18:1.

This is because the previous visit has no affect on the future visit. Sure, before you've gone on the ride, the odds would've been the full 324:1. However, once you've done it once, the odds become 18:1. And the third time is still 18:1, not 5,832:1.

A simpler example of this. If I were to flip a coin 10 times, the odds of it coming up heads 10 times in a row is 1028:1. However, if I've already flipped the coin 9 times and got heads 9 times, the odds of the 10th flip being also heads becomes 2:1. The 10th flip coming up heads is much more likely in the moment than it is from before the 1st flip.

So -even though it feels like the odds are very unlikely - in the reality of being there they aren't! Did I make any sense at all?

And if are ever traveling together, I'll have to send DW with you on small world. I love the ride, but ONCE a day is enough!

I too, was wondering about the fried green tomato sandwich at Hungry Bear! It's delicious. And omgoodness, do I love sweet potato fries. I make them as often as I can here at home. Probably not as good as DL's but i'll take them.

Thank you so much for the photography lesson. I was going to ask about what type of camera and lens you have. I do have a question. Do you need a 'good' lens to do night time shots like you did on Winnie the Pooh? Or can you use the stock lens already on the camera and still get some decent shots? I have a Canon Rebel xsi that I bought as a kit with a telephoto lens and some other wide framed lens.

Thank you for that photographic FEAST!! Brilliant pics! I aspire to such crisp indoor photos but alas, I'm afraid I'll have to wait until I can upgrade to a DSLR (I have a film DSLR but it's just as not much fun when you can't immediately see your results! lol!).

.

Finally caught up! Teach me to go to WDW/DCL for 10 days and get behind. ;)

I am seriously impressed with the Indiana Jones photos. I thought this would be about the most difficult ride to take photos at. I also loved the photos of It's A Small World. I have done this ride at Disneyland Paris, Disneyland and Walt Disney World, but the one at Disneyland is my favourite.

Corinna

So I've been merrily following along, and somehow completely skipped your last lot of posts :confused3

I haven't been to Innoventions yet. I suspect it will be something we do next time when we have 'no royal show rides' mum with us :thumbsup2 That virtual iron man costume would have been fun! What was the line like for it?

Your pics are always so great :worship:

I loved playing 'spot the Disney dolls' on IASW. I told DH he needn't come along with me, but he must have been curious, because he did join me in the end. I don't think he ever will again though :rotfl:

I can only do Small World so much because I just can't take the song. It gets stuck in my head and drives me CRAZY forever after I've been on it!

OK, If I have the time, this makes me want to come over to your PTR. I am a total math geek and these stupid calculations are things I totally understand. Not that they are stupid, but the fact that we are all geeked out by them is silly. I'm surprised you didn't participate in the calculations of whether or not PIO should start a new TR or just continue with her PTR...

Ha, ha. I can't say there's a lot of math and statistics in my PTR! :confused3 I do an awful lot of spreadsheeting for a Disney trip though - but I don't usually torture my readers that way!

I totally missed any calculations on her PTR vs TR. PIO is a very popular lady here, that's for sure. Of course, great images and words in her reports, though!

OMG I feel like I've been through the Temple, soared through the Stars and sang with the Dolls. The pics were AWESOME!

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it. :thumbsup2

Glad the Star Tours monotony changed somewhat.

Maybe it was twice on IaSW and then the boys staged a mutiny when I suggested the 3rd time.

The trip to Hong Kong was worth it. Tagging HKDL to a trip to Hong Kong is just the extra cream on top. If you were planning a trip to Hong Kong Disneyland only.....well.....it's probably worth about 2 days.

But Hong Kong is only a 9 - 10 hour flight away from Melbourne; so it's the closest place for me to get a Disney fix.

Thank you and Bret for the photo info!

I forgot how different the DLP version of Small World is than the DW version!! Do you have pictures of the Hong Kong version posted somewhere??

They don't have the WED way People Mover at DLP, do they?

No working People Mover at DL.

My Hong Kong PTR/TR link is here. There is an index in the second post. The Hong Kong Disneyland portion covers the first 2 - 3 days of the trip. I think I hit IaSW on the second day. In any event, I wrote the rides in as Episodes IV, V and VI.

Wow. Drop a note to the Dizzy Corp Board! Brilliant!

That American Girl Doll Store (without a Cash Register) needs to get their iPod fixed. It just keeps playing the same song over and over and over again. If it weren't for there, it would be Practically Perfect. ;)

Your welcome.

Thanks Bret. One of these years, I hope to hit both DLR and WDW when the Christmas decorations are up. It's on my bucket list. Sadly, it's not on DH. But we have seen DLR all decked out in Christmas twice before. I'd love to see WDW!

beautiful pictures my friend, I feel like I was on the rides with you!

Thanks! Hopefully, you'll feel the same way when we get to WDW.

Princess Leah? :rotfl:

Yes, where is the magic hat and the indispensable jacket??

I thought about going on the Matterhorn but wasn't sure I wanted to experience the reported jerkiness. We had pretty good advise to keep our memories of the old Matterhorn for a bit longer.

:scratchin When does anything on my TR ever make sense???

:lmao:

The fried green tomato sandwich is pretty easy for me to pass up on. It's a little known fact......but the tomato is not one of my favourite fruits. I don't mind it cooked out in sauces; but I'm not fond of eating it in sandwiches, raw or fried.

Your question about night time shots. Do you mean as it shooting fireworks or night time parades or WoC/Fantasmic or a projection show?

In any event...and as forward promotion....we are nearly up to the night time stuff on Day 1. So, when we get to those activities, I'll try and include some photog speak for those.

Thank you for that photographic FEAST!! Brilliant pics! I aspire to such crisp indoor photos but alas, I'm afraid I'll have to wait until I can upgrade to a DSLR (I have a film DSLR but it's just as not much fun when you can't immediately see your results! lol!).

I remember the days of film SLR. We had to wait until the film was processed before we saw any pictures. I miss the anticipation....but the instant gratification from looking at the screen immediately is hard to beat. I hope you upgrade soon.

Finally caught up! Teach me to go to WDW/DCL for 10 days and get behind. ;)

YAY! You're back. Was it a good trip? And are you doing a TR?

I am seriously impressed with the Indiana Jones photos. I thought this would be about the most difficult ride to take photos at. I also loved the photos of It's A Small World. I have done this ride at Disneyland Paris, Disneyland and Walt Disney World, but the one at Disneyland is my favourite.

My aim in life is to hit all DL parks around the world. I definitely have Paris in my sights. How do the dolls in Paris compare to WDW?

Thanks Zanzibar. I have to admit that I did get on this ride anticipating to play Spot the Disney Dolls. Turned out it was harder to do than the HK version.

It's a World of Laughter, a world of tears....
It's a World of hope...and a world of fears.....

I'm still working out if there was space on that PTR to extend it for this TR. :lmao:

Popular?? WOW! That's not a word I would use to describe me. But it warms my heart if you think so. (You like me. You really like me.)

I'm the shy, retiring type in real life.

OMG I remember film too! Rolls of 24 or 36 shots! You'd better make them good! I know I went to Disneyland in 2000 - I have FIVE PICTURES!!!!! :rotfl2: in a big, old, hold in your lap photo album.....

I feel so old! :sad2:

My aim in life is to hit all DL parks around the world. I definitely have Paris in my sights. How do the dolls in Paris compare to WDW?

I prefer them to WDW, but they are not as nice as at Disneyland. However, there is a great walkthrough display of landmarks all around Europe in typical IASW style when you come off the ride.

Corinna

I'm still working out if there was space on that PTR to extend it for this TR. :lmao:

Well when you finish this one all up, we can count the posts and add them to the posts on the PTR and figure out if you would have gone over the limit! :teacher:

I am preparing to move. I have already five bankers boxes full of albums with pictures in them that were developed from film and then put on those sticky back pages. Heck I even have half a dozen albums that I ordered from the Kodak Gallery and Disney Photopass from my digital prints just so I could have one of those books to hold in my lap. If I ever get the time, I plan to make them for 2011, 2012 and 2013 as well. Last one was from 2010.
