We aren't going to the Fort until December but I have some questions about driving. Are there any special precautions we should take in towing our pop-up through the mountains in December? We've got the electric brakes if that means anything. What if there is any snow. Maybe I should mention we are driving from Chicago. I would like to anticipate any concerns now. We tow with a 2000 Windstar.

if you come down I-24 east the only bad spot is Monteagle 20 miles west of Chattanooga if we get any snow or ice they shut that part of the interstate down and it is a long process on the detour. you can check with TDOT before you leave to see road conditions. hope this helps...Denise

Thanks for asking the question we are heading down in Nov. from N.W indiana and I was just wondering the same thing about the weather conditions. So near Chattanooga they shut down the road hmmm we are planning on making chattanooga our midway point will I be able to make it there in the event of bad weather??

We drive from Michigan and take I75 all the way down. We've been really luckily with the weather. The only thing we may have a rough time with is hauling thru Tennesse (if you pick up 75), one hill my van didn't like and started to run hot. But that was it!

We used to drive down from Minnesota every year (by way of Chicago) in February. We had to deal with ice storms a couple of times going through Illinois and Kentucky. But, we never had problems in the mountains. We always made Chatanooga our halfway point (it's actually a little more than halfway from Minnesota).

We are here now and came down all the way on I-65 and then down US-231 ( don't flame me Carol, I know you don't like it ) at Montgomery, AL. to I-10. NO mountains, NO Chattanooga and NO ATLANTA !!!!! It is longer but we had no delays all the way down and the four lane 65mph US-231 was a nice break from the Interstates.

No flames here. Interstates are just my preference!! I'm glad you had a great trip!! Since I can categorically plan my trip to go through Atlanta at 10:30 at night, Atlanta is easy :-)

We've never hauled a camper but have driven to WDW many times from NE IN as well as NW OH. Avoiding Nashville & Chattanooga is so much nicer now that we can head straight down I75. (We used to take I-65 to I-24 to I-75 when we lived in IN.)
