We are seriously considering relocating to central Florida from NJ. I went to school in northeast Florida and have missed living there ever since, I really love everything about it.

If anyone can help me out with a towns that would be great. I know we want to live in Seminole county because of the schools and I'd really love to find an old fashioned kind of town, one that has a small town feel to it, with a Main street etc.. I always joke around and say I want to live in Stuckeyville(from that show Ed). lol.

We're also looking and leaning towards Southern Florida any good places to look that you can suggest? Do you prefer the east or west coast?

Thanks in advance for your help!!

Edited because I changed the title of the post and added some ??

Thank you SO much for your help!!!

DH and I moved to FL almost 14 years ago from NJ! However, I'm in South Florida. I don't know about the Central FL area. Good luck!

"Has anyone relocated Florida?"

I don't know about you, but I didn't feel the earth move anytime recently. It's still in the same place.

:)

We retired from New Hampshire to Winter Haven about 3 months ago. Housing is very cheap here. Food seems to be much more expensive. Grandson is in private school - classes seemed too big for him. PM or e-mail me if you want.

We moved here from the Chicago area 5 years ago. Best move we ever made!

Have told others to contact a national realty office down here. They have a wealth of information about the area.

Good luck and best wishes.

I'm in Sanford right now, where TigH lives. My relatives just moved here, and they call it Mayberry (sp?), so it sounds like something you would like. They were describing one area to me as "Main Street USA," but I haven't seen it myself. I've also been driving through Oviedo for a few days, and the small part that I have seen looks a little Mayberry-ish.

Hi. Central Florida is much nicer "people" wise than South Florida where I live now. I lived in Kissimmee for a year and would love to go back. I am a NJ native and miss the family feel of my old hometown in NJ, but because of family and job commitments, I will not be returning anytime soon. :( By the way, the town Stuckeyville on Ed is actually a town in New Jersey where the exterior shots are filmed! You don't have to go far to find it!!:D There are plenty of nice small " main street " towns in central and north Florida. Find the names of the towns in the area you are interested in and check to see if the town has a website. I have found a lot of interesting info about different towns, even the small ones, on the internet. Contact the local chamber of commerce and town halls, they may have info for you too. Best of luck to you in your search!!

I relocated FROM Florida and I don't recommend that at all!!! DH has started sending resumes to Central FL and GA (including Disney!) so I'm hoping beyond all hope to get south again.

Ocala used to be a real nice place, but I hear it's growing tremendously. Get out a map and start researching cities around Orlando. I recommend staying out of Orlando itself. I lived off of Orange Blossom Trail for awhile and it was scary! lol No Disney out that way at all. :p

Good luck! Let us know when you find something.

Relocated to So Florida from DC 28 years ago and have never regreted it. Now want to move from So Fl to the Central Florida area. Osceola County for me. Or maybe Lake County.

Thank you everyone for your responses!!!!

Oh I know! We're actually not that far from there-lol! It's just SOO expensive around here and we'd never be able to afford to move to another house in NJ. The market as gone up so much since we bought this house, were lucky in that aspect.

I'm defintely going to check out Sanford. Does anyone know anything about Winter Springs, Winter park, Longwood, Altamonte Springs and Deltona? What about Eustis?

What about nice, safe ares in South Florida? I've been to Sarasota and it was beautiful anyone from around there? How about Punta Gorda? We really aren't set on Central Florida.

Thanks again for all your help!!!!!

This sounds very familiar. After almost 15 years in South FL, I'd really like to move to Central FL also. Closer to the Mouse! :teeth:

I drove through Maitland today, and it seemed like a nice little town. I previously interviewed in Longwood and Apopka. They looked the same as all the other Orlando satellites... lots of new construction. I've heard Longwood described as a yuppie haven. Lake Mary is pretty nice from what I've seen, too. This Heathrow area has big money; I've heard it called the silicon valley of the south (yes we've heard that before). I was driving through the tech sector the other night; it was unbelievable.

I'm partial to older areas with a little history that have been kept up well or renovated, though. The area I saw in Maitland today is the closest I've seen to something like that. It seems around here that you either live in a newly-constructed area, or you live in the hood. It's been difficult for me to find something in between.

I have a friend who lives in Deltona and works in Lake Mary. The housing in Deltona was more affordable, but you start getting into the "hick" areas if you get out too far from Orlando. If that's not your scene, keep that in mind.

We were looking in Clearwater area last year. The school situation is what held us back, I really felt the school system was lacking compared to what we have here. They were also starting a new policy where you had to choose 3 schools and they would assign you to whichever one was available. No one could tell us for sure which school our kids would attend. We could move into a neighborhood and be the only kids not able to get into that school because it's a good school and full. Housing, yards, the pools, lack of open space were so different then what we were used to. The pros of warm weather did not outweigh the cons.

Thank you everyone!!! It looks like were leaning towards Southern Florida but we're not sure yet. I think the deciding factor will be were DH can find a job but we're trying to narrow it down a little bit first. Coral Springs seems really nice but it's so big. I'm looking at Winter Springs now....oh I don't know.

It's such a HUGE decision, I have no idea how we're going to decide- ahhhhhh!!! lol.

I have a co-worker who moved out of Coral Springs to get her kids out of that high school. Bad news for them. She's much happier now.
