Anyone from PEI? Need travel advice!

Hi all,

We are thinking of visiting PEI in June (18-25) this year instead of our usual late July or AUgust visit.

Weather is our main hesitation.

Does anyone know if this is wise, in terms of weather and ability to swim in the ocean? Are things like the attractions and theme parks open at this time in June?

Thank you for tolerating this off topic question.

I'm not from PEI but I am from Cape Breton :flower1: --close enough for a little advice. The weather is June is usually quite comfortable but not for swimming in the ocean. It is still too chilly! I'm not sure what attractions are open but I believe most open up the long weekend in May--some not until the end of June. If you are going to visit specific areas or do some hiking, it would be a great time but not necessarily if you are going for swimming and camping. May be a little bit early. Hope this helps a bit.

I am not from PEI either, but we did visit PEI last June...I believe we were there June 20th - 25th. The weather was cool and we did have some rain but we did all of the attractions and it was nice because nothing was that busy. There was one day that we were able to wear shorts and a sweatshirt to the beach. We still had alot of fun and made the most of it. We stayed at a wonderful place called Bosom Buddies. Whatever you decide have a wonderful trip!

Thank you. I appreciate it! Perhaps if we think of this as a "late spring" vacation rather than a "beach vacation" we will have the right mindset.

Thanks again!

Hi There Mainebound,

Just noticed your post...Weather here on PEI can go either way in June. Sometimes it can be 27C or 15C. It's a little more predictable in July and August. I really wouldn't count on swimming in warm ocean waters in June unless you're on the southshore(strait side). I think it's a good idea to approach it with the idea that it will be late spring, early summer weather wise.
Most attractions do open Victoria day weekend and by mid June are in full operation.
If you have any more questions please feel free to pm me.

We once went to PEI in june (off season rates at hotels), and had a great time. The lupins where in bloom, and it was stunning!

I would recommend it, but you can never predict weather here in the maritimes so pack for every possibility!

have fun!

PS on your way through, stop in Fredericton, it is a very pretty place with lots of free activities for tourists. Outdoor summer theater, changing of the guard downtown, and some nice churchs to tour!

Thanks sandraB. We went ahead and booked the home. We have stayed there before -- it is near Souris -- and it is so lovely that even a bit of cool weather will not put us off. Besides that week in June was the only time our dear friends could join us and they are more important than swimming!

As another Frederictonian I echo Sandra's statement-Stop here if you can, even for a night. I just wanted to tell you to be prepared for some weather damage at Cavendish if you go there. A great deal of dune and thus beach has eroded due to hurricane type weather.
Still my favorite summer spot tho!

Wow I had no idea! Our little boys are not into Anne quite yet, but they did love Rainbow Valley. Hope that's intact!

As for Fredericton, we have seen it and I agree it is lovely, but we usually go up the coast along the Bay of Fundy, so it would be out of the way this trip (if I have my map right).

Can't wait to see the lupines!
