anyone from louisiana going for mardi gras

I am so upset. I was on the disney website and I found out that splash mt. will be closed when we go. That is my favorite ride.

I just noticed that. I am disappointed too. So far it looks like SM is the only one that will closed. I am crossing my fingers. I can't believe that there are so many from new iberia on here. That is great. I may know you or your DH coteau chick cuse we are about the same age.

LSU pulled it off!!!!!!!! :yay:

Going for Mardis Gras, Feb 1st -9th!!!
We live in New Iberia, La.
Go Tigers!!!

Glad to know that New Iberia, Louisiana will be well represented in the World. There are lots of people who think I am nuts for leaving, but I think the family time and low crowds at disney are worth it. :)

Snow White's Scary Adventures is closed too! Other than that, I don't see anything else. Except for the usual stuff that's closed this time of year such as one water park, (this year is Blizzard Beach) and the stuff at Epcot. (Body Wars & Cranium Command)

I'm really bummed that 2 attractions that I didn't get to ride last time are closed this time. I am VERY HAPPY that the Indie Speedway is open again because my DS was so sad last time. That was the main ride he was looking forward to.

Look out Mouse, the Boquet's will be there!!! Our first trip "home" to DVC!!!

Comin' from Houma, LA!!

We are heading to "the World" for Mardi Gras as well. We will be bringing a group of 17 (8 adults / 9 kids) leaving on January 31st and returning on February 10th (driving).

We are from Cut Off, LA.

I wanted to post this link to a thread on the Codes and Rates board:
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1349674

It was started by a poster from the North Shore as a "lookout" for codes for people going in February 2008. There are alot of Louisiana posters on that thread as well.

Which resort are you staying at? I am going to call today about switching our POR reservations to WL. It is going to be so fun so many from Louisiana are going to be there. We should all decorate lime green mickey heads with plastic crawfish or something like that so we will be able to ID disers from LA.

We are staying at All Star Sports Resort. They are currently remodeling the rooms and they should be done by the time we go.

We have never stayed at WL, but we did stay at POR one summer (in June).

If you do decide to stay there, try to request a building in the Alligator Bayou section close to the main building (like #14, 15, 16, or 18). We stayed in the Mansion section in Building 85 (Magnolia Terrace). I found the walk to the main building to be rather long, but we were facing the parking lot at about the furthest spot from the bridge to the swimming pool "island". The other thing that was bad about our location was that we were closest to the East Depot for the buses. The East Depot is the last pickup point for the buses, and POR usually shares a bus with POFQ. So, we were bus stop #5 out of 5 and would always catch a bus in the morning that was either standing room only....or it was completely full and we would need to wait for the next bus.

If you are close to the Main Building, you can catch the bus there and you would be at stop #2 out of 5 (POFQ is stop #1).

Of course...this was all during early June....which I'm sure was way busier than February will be. However, Thanksgiving will probably be busier than our June trip was.

I have never been during Thanksgiving, but I know a few people that have been and they said it was packed for the whole week (especially closer to Thanksgiving....Weds, Thurs, Fri, Sat). I have a fellow worker here that is going this Thanksgiving.

If you do decide to go for Thanksgiving, I would either subscribe to TourGuideMike.com or get an Unofficial Guide for a little guidance on how to avoid the crowds. I can never understand how some people will spend at least $2,000 (and usually more) for a vacation, and then not spend $20 on a book or website subscription to learn more about their vacation destination and help to make their vacation fun.

We have never been on a cruise, but we are planning on a Disney Cruise in 2009....and I can guarantee I will be buying a book or two to do a little research before spending my $2,000+ on a cruise for my family of 3.

How is it for Thanksgiving? Have you ever been at that time before? Thanks for posting.

Thanksgiving is a wonderful time. All of WDW is decorated for Christmas!!!Since Louisiana schools are off all of Thanksgiving week, we leave right after school on Friday to catch a flight. Friday through Thursday isn't very crowded at all. Wednesday through the Sunday after T-day is crazy. That's why this year,we check out on Wed. and move to Universal. If you stay at an onsite Universal hotel, you use your room key for a separate entrance to the rides and the longest wait is about 8 minutes.

Hi from PONCHATOULA. We will be at WDW Jan 31 - Feb 7. We planned this trip and booked it before we knew it was during Mardi Gras. I was kinda worried at first about all of us being off of school and making the parks crowded (call me spoiled) but it will be our first time to go during this time of the year. We are usually at WDW during the first weeks of Dec and the crowds are AWSOME. But we wanted to go this year for our DD5's birthday. She will turn 6 while we are there and that will be one special day for her (feb 3)!

The last trip we went on (dec 06) had a total of 14 people on it. WOW!! This trip will be a much smaller # of people. It will be Me (the disLUV), my DW, DD5, DS2, my FIL and my MIL. And that is it.

We are staying at POFQ and have stayed there before. Not the place of our dreams (that was dec 06 at the Contemp. with a mk view WOW) but a nice place to stay.

Anyway that is us. Hope to see yall there!

BTW If anyone is looking for some Lime Green Mickey heads. I have a home depot close to me in Covington. And I would be glad to go pick up some from there and mail them out to you. I will go ahead and say that I can pick up 10from HD and mail them out the people to PM me with the address (if you feel comfortable doing that)

I would like to read pre trip reports of people from south Louisiana. I am from there and we are going for mardi gras 2008 (feb 4-10).
HELLO!! This is our very first trip to Disney! I've always dreamed of going to Disney--and it's going to happen (God willing) 2/3 - 2/9 2008. I have 2 boys 12 and 4--we're from the Coteau area (border of St. Martinville). 11 of our camping buddies, -and- just so happens that 4 1/2 (baby in tow) great friends and 3 other family members will be there during this week as well (give or take a day or two). We are SO excited!!

We're staying at All Star Movies resort. We've got the dining plan and Park Hopper for 7 days. Any MUST HAVE tips to share from past Disney-goers that I might not have read or would apply to a family with a 12 year old and a 4 year old--we'd prefer NOT to split up during the trip?:cheer2:

Looks like most if not all of you fellow Louisianians will be gone by the time we get there (Arriving on the 9th). I think I will attempt to make some sort of "Louisiana" or Mardi Gras LGMH to wear on our first day just in case we run into any of y'all still lingering around.:)

Does anyone have any cute ideas for t-shirts. I would like to design a cute t-shirt for my family to wear. Lime green of course.

Shirt suggestions: Short sleeves will allow you to layer over a long sleeve for the change in temperature from AM to PM. If chosing EITHER a design on front or on back, opt for FRONT design so that when wearing a jacket your design can be appreciated. I am working on designing shirts for our group... Coteau Crewe de Coullions (spelling?) french word prounounced COOYAWNS (means similar to knuckle head). We've had camping shirts made for this "crewe" before at a shop in St. Martinville (Rytec)--pretty inexpensive.

I used Adobe photoshop software. If you want a copy of the Mickey silhouette, I can post it.
