Anyone from Hartford, CT area?

Hi everyone!

My DD is playing in a basketball tournament in the Hartford area in April and we are looking for a place to stay overnight while there. The hotels that the tournament suggests are the following:

Courtyard - Cromwell Headquarter Hotel
Rocky Hill Marriot
Best Western New England Inn - Berlin
Courtyard - Manchester
Hampton Inn Rocky Hill
Sheraton East Hartford

Can anyone give me any reviews or thoughts on any of these as I am totally unfamiliar with the area..?? We are a group of about 12 families traveling with a team of 13 year old girls. Any suggestions or opinions would be greatly appreciated!

I'm from CT but not near Hartford, so I'm not familiar with any of those. But there is a website called tripadvisor.com where people post reviews. You just have to navigate thru the site to find specifically which hotel.

I actually did look on TripAdvisor for these hotels, but amazingly, none have customer reviews! I rely on that site all the time...isn't it a great resource?

I've never stayed in any that you have listed, but have stayed in
Windsor at both the Marriot and the Courtyard. Rooms were nice in both places, Marriott more expensive than Courtyard.
An example on price I could give you is that for our company Christmas party we had a "special" rate of $89 which is good for the Marriott, but I stayed across the street at the Courtyard for
$64 (they were having a special that had nothing to do w/ my company) Both hotels are about 10 minutes north of Hartford .

I actually work in the Corporate Park with the Rocky Hill Marriot and it is very nice as well as the area it is in. We have meetings there and it seems to be a hotel for business travelers but it is very nice, clean and right off the highway.

The Courtyard in Manchester is steps away from the Buckland Mall and in an area where there are hundreds of stores and restuarants, lots to do if you like to shop and eat! I have heard the hotel itself is nice as well.

The Sheraton In East Hartford is pretty new, it has it's own exit but the area it is in is not as nice as the other hotels. My Fiancee said the hotel is new and clean and since it does have it's own exit, you don't have to wander around Hartford to get to it (it is on the border of Hartford and East Hartford)

Thank you!!! It sounds like we can't go wrong with either the Rocky Hill Marriott or the Courtyard Manchester. Thank you soooo much for the input. It's always a little nerve-wracking trying to find a nice place to stay when you know nothing about the area. We've stayed in one or two scary places in the past and I'm trying to avoid that this time!!

IMO, the other two are a little inconvenient and not in the greatest of areas.

Sammy, is the tournament in Hartford or another city? I ask because if it is in Hartford I have a suggestion for where to stay.

The tournament is "in the Harford area". It is a huge AAU tournament...approx. 110 teams. The games are spread out over many gyms in the area....you could finish up one game and have to drive across town for your next. I am only going by the hotels they listed on their website as a guide for the general area for the tournament. Any suggestions would still be greatly appreciated!
