Anyone from from DTW to MCO? Looking for opinions about fly times

Hi :),

I just wanted to know if anyone has ever flown out of Detroit to Orlando? I was looking at flights and even if we take the earliest flight there we still won't get into Orlando until Noon. This is our second Disney trip, but our FIRST one staying on site :yay:, and flying in, so I know DME can pick you up, but I believe it's at least another 20 minutes from the airport to WDW right?

I just wanted to know if you guys felt like it's a day lost since we won't get there until the late afternoon. It seems like a waste of a day :(. I was thinking maybe we would extend our trip from a 7 day pass to an 8 day, or else fly in a day early before check in, rent a car, and stay in a hotel.

I'm all about getting every single hours worth at Disney (I'm the person who gets up early, and stay allll day) so maybe that's why I feel like it's a waste of a trip. I think it'd be fine if we were going with young kids or something, but my Fiance (soon to be husband :) ) and I are going for our honeymoon, so it's not like we need to go back to the resort early, or do half days because we get cranky and need naps :P.

What do you guys think? Or those of you who have done this before, what do you usually do?

Hope someone can help, and ease my mind! :) :D

Thank you for reading! :)

Hi MickeyX3,

My DW and I usually leave YYZ around 7 am, to arrive in MCO by 10-11.

We go right to the DME, and are on the bus within 20 minutes.

Arriving at our resort, we've had 4/5 times a room that is ready upon arrival at noon. We typically chill out at the resort, or have a nap. Without fail, each time we've had a nap...a bellman arrives with our bags exactly 2 hours after resort arrival.

We enjoy this because, as I'm sure you will be doing, getting up at "oh *F Me past the crack of dawn" to catch a flight out of DTW or YYZ, you and your family WILL be tired.

NAPS ARE KEY!!!

Do 2 hours of naps, perhaps a bit of pool time, then hit the parks for the evening.

On your first day, you do not want to over-do it. You have 7 more days. The key to a Disney trip is to *ease* into it. Enjoy that first day around the resort: explore, find the refillable mug station; check out the pool bar (margarita?); walk the grounds and......GET INTO THE DISNEY EXPERIENCE!!

You and your family will thank you for doing it like that.
:teeth:

Enjoy!!!

We fly out of Detroit all the time. Last time(Jan this year) we flew on Delta and left DTW at 10am. We physically got to our room at 2pm. We did a quick freshen up, quick bite to eat and headed to Epcot and stayed till 9pm close. We picked Epcot because it was open the latest that day. Of course we didn't see all of it but we did see enough to satisfy our Disney craving for the first day.

We fly out of Detroit too. It's true you don't get a full day in WDW. I think it's a good day to make something like Fantasmic a priority or a parade or fireworks or whatever you really want to see. Any extra rides or things you get to do before that are just a bonus. I figure if we get settled in maybe ride a couple rides, eat something and I like to see Fantasmic it's a successful day. Every day we're up at rope drop. I can't sleep when I'm so excited to be at Disney. Even as grown ups by 2pm we're pooped and go back to the room to nap and recharge so we will have energy to head back and see some fireworks or ride some rides etc (basically whatever we didn't get to do earlier)

We have taken the flight on delta that left at 8 and have done the one that leaves at 10. Both times we basically were able to get off the plan and walk to dme hope right on and be at the resort in no time. Our first night we usually do downtown disney. The kids are tired from the travelling but excited and I find this gives them their disney fix instead of rushing to a park when we are already tired. Usually they pick out one thing to get at a store. T-rex is a good place to have a meal as well. My advice is to enjoy your first day, take it slow you will be busy. Enjoy the resort and the pool.

Thanks so much everyone! I like the idea of going to Downtown Disney since we for sure want to go there, and don't necessarily need a whole day to do it :).
