We are thinking about flying US Air out of T.F. Green @ Providence, RI as opposed to Hartford, CT where we usually go out of. Providence is about an hour's drive more than Hartford for us.

Any info on T.F. Green? i.e. How is the traffic in the a.m. around 7:00; How is the parking? Any other info is appreciated, thanks!

I've flown out of Green many times. I can't compare it to Hartford since I've never been there. But, it is a nice airport. The parking is reasonable. There is a good sized covered parking garage fairly close to the terminal area. The traffic starts to build up about that time. I hate having to travel there around 5ish or 8 in the morning. But it was much easier than going into Logan for many years. If I could get Song out of Green I would probably fly there.

I too, would rather fly out of Green. I usually park at Preflight Parking near the airport. It is cheaper and they pick you up at your car. We are flying to CA from there in June. We have a 7am flight. traffic won't be bad, but their security line can be bad eary morning, depending on the day.
My DIL works for Delta there and the rumors are flying that Song just may be coing to Green. She said Southwest needs some competion and now with Spirit and Independence Air there, Song just may come.

Our past trips have been from TF Green to Orlando - on Delta, with a stop in Atlanta

This Aug DS13 & I will be trying Hartford for the first time - going direct on Song

we've been flying out of PVD for about 4yrs. we love it. easy cheap parking.

my only gripe is the LONG security lines! we always fly out early morning and the security backup is atrocious!!! plus the fact that southwest at least, makes you wait while they xray your checked luggage!! man that annoys me. not enough to stop me from flying out of there though LOL.

We used to love PVD - so easy to get to, parking MUCH easier & cheaper than Logan. However, last August, we nearly missed our flight because the security lines were so long and slow. It was a Saturday morning, which I guess can be busy, but the lines were just unbelievable. Especially frustrating because we were flying SW and I had stayed up till midnight to get the coveted A boarding passes. We ended up being the last 4 to board the plane, just minutes before take-off and of course there were no seats together. I think what bothered us most was that security would not accomodate people in lines whose flights had already been called (they will often do that at other airports). We have friends who have had similar experiences with chaotic, long lines. We'd still fly out of PVD if we needed to, but would plan to arrive even earlier than 2 hours before flight time.

I like flying out of TF Greene rather than Hartford or Logan. As everyone has said, the security line is always long so plan for that. But the parking is a cinch and the lot is easy to get in and out of.

I thought the food court was blah and it's not always open - so plan on bringing your own food/drink if you have to.

You may know this, but the drive from where you live to Greene is 2 hours (doing the speed limit and w/o traffic) I've done it a million times.

We always have trouble picking an airport to fly out of -- and unless the airfare is wicked cheap, we chose the airport based on which one we want to drive home from (flight time arrival and traffic huge considerations).

Good luck!

Although I've never flown out of TFGreen, my parents do every year when they fly down here. They used to fly out of Boston but found PVD alot easier. All I know is that they have no complaints about it, and with all due respect to them, boy do they complain about things!

We always take no stop filghts with southwest out of TF Green and we love it. Other than the security like everone else has said. But it's hit or miss, sometimes it's not that bad. Coming from Harford on Rt 6 you shouldn't hit traffic until right in PRV and that early it should be fine. It starts to get thisck around 7:30 but traffic here is spotty. It shouldn't be bad then. I would not reccomend taking the highway route from Hartford though. In my opinion take Rt. 6! The highway method that mapquest puts you on 95 in CT which can be messy in the morning where Rt6 is a 2 lane road but much better than taking 9south to 95 north which is what mapquest will tell you to do.

I live less than a halfhour from TFGreen... so yes, we always fly out of there.

I am flying on June 9th - Southwest for only $49 each way (115 total with all the taxes etc)!!
Yes, the security lines can be long - but just plan ahead of time. The last time I went, they were so much better than the year before. I use Airport Valet Parking - $42.00 a week, with a free shuttle. It is just down the street from the airport.
The best thing about Green - no traffic at all, in and out and you are on the highway in 2 minutes.

If anyone needs coupons for parking just PM me.. I get them all the time.

I used to fly out of Green and Bradley, but I have flown the last two times out of Logan and it is so much easier than before, especially if you fly Delta. I am a convert and I love Logan again!

Short security lines, luggage within reason and lots of places to eat there.

If we have a choice we always pick Providence over Boston. The distance to both is almost exactly the same for us, but the ease of getting to Providence is what makes us go there. It's an easy on and off the highway and we've never had any hassles. Heading out of there in 10 days! :)

We prefer PVD to BOS also. We usually take an early flight on SWA and the lines haven't been too bad. Easy, cheap parking. Grab some coffee and bagels from Dunkin Donuts in the terminal and we're on our way!! :goodvibes

We live about 20 minutes from Green, and I wouldn't fly from anywhere else (unless I absolutely had to for some reason). We always fly SW non-stop to Orlando. We're going this month...$49 each way. :)

We always get to airports at least 2 hours ahead of time, and that usually means 5:00 - 5:30 in the morning. The security lines may be long at Green, but we always end up with lots of time to sit and read (or sleep) while waiting to board, and I really can't compare it to too many other airports. Last time we flew home from Orlando, MCO's security lines were a disaster...VERY disorganized. We flew to and from O'Hare last December, and the security line was pretty long there too, altho they attempted to get us through quickly because we were late getting to the airport (got lost  ).

Southwest is the only airline flying out of Green. We take this to Disney. We park in parking garage B. Easy access to airport and is covered so you're not exposed to the elements. I'm a firm believer in nonstop with children. The sooner you get there the better.
