How's the service? Do you get assigned seating when purchasing tickets or is it more like the way SW hands out seats? I just found a much better deal with them than the other airlines, but I want opinions first. Thanks!

We haven't flown with them recently (our last trip with them was 2003) but we had no complaints whatsoever about the service and as I recall we did get assigned seating when we purchased our tickets.

EWR is their main hub so I fly them all the time (couldn't tell you the last time I flew with someone else). I absolutely love them...the prices are reasonable, you get assigned seats, meals/snacks on flights, a nice crew...I'm definitely a fan.

I actually got lower fares for my trip in May on Cont. than SWA or Jetblue.

Its been about a year since I flew Continental, but when I booked my reservation I got to select my seat at that time.

Thanks, I was planning on booking with Continental tonight. Of course, by the time my DH got home an hour later so that I could discuss it with him, prices had jumped another $100! So....now I'm back to the drawing boards.

If you need to connect through EWR -then it is the worst airline! In October 2006 I flew from IAD connected at EWR to go to SYR. It was the WEIRDEST connection I've ever had with any airline ever!

I had to go to a different part of the airport (not weird) BUT to get there-it was not at all signed well, I had a really difficult time figuring out which way to go(and I've been through tons of airports by myself and never had a navigation problem) I had to go through a series of elevators or stairs (no escalators) and crowds to then get to a "monorail" to the correct hub, and then had to decend down either stairs or an elevator to then go through SECURITY all over again????? :confused3 I had to take off my shoes, get out my tickets/documentation, show my zip lock bag of stuff, take off my jacket, put stuff through the x-ray machine...etc. Isn't that strange???? Usually, you check in and go through security at the first airport and then you are good for the remainder of the trip as long as you don't leave the secured area. I was soooo glad I was by myself and not with my 5yr. old-and I do frequently travel alone with him.

Other than the experience of changing planes at EWR-Continental was fine. I've flown Continental before in the past and I've never experienced anything like that before.
