Anyone familiar with Skype

Hi

I have a business trip in a couple weeks and have to leave my 2 year old dd for the first time.

I was thinking of getting web cams but I was wondering if we could use our cell phones.

I have a blackberry and my hubby has a droid. Does anyone know if you can do video calling with these 2 phones.

I don't think you can on the blackberry, I had the Torch and it didn't do any kind of video chat.

I know for sure the iPhone 5 can, I have never had a droid.

My inlaws just moved to Florida. We use Skype quite frequently on my laptop. It did not have a built in camera so we just got an inexpensive one for like $25 and it works great. Sorry, I don't have experience using it with phones. I have been in your place though and remember it was not easy. Have a great tip and your DD will be in good hands.

If the iphone has a camera, then you can use Facetime for it. I am not sure about Blackberries/Droids, but worth checking into. Facetime works similar to Skype.

Skype with video on a cell phone requires a forward facing camera, and a few other requirements that vary by phone operating system.

The quick answer is no Blackberry phones can do video Skype and the Droid also can't do video Skype.

If you want to do Skype with a computer, you need a webcam and an internet connection that meets minimum upload rates. The quality you receive is based on the camera meeting certain requirements, your computer meeting requirements, and the upload speed meeting certain thresholds. This is a fancy way of saying I can't tell you to go buy this webcam and it will look amazing.
