Anyone familiar with Rochester, NY?

My son is scheduled to have open heart surgery at Strong Children's hospital in July. A good friend of mine secured reservations for us at the Holiday Inn Airport on Brooks Rd. I am trying to see how close this is to the hospital and found 1 site that said it was 1 mile away. Does anyone know if this is true?

I can't help with the hotel, sorry. I do know that Strong is an excellent hospital and I just wanted to send some PD for successful surgery and a full recovery

Thank you, we were to have this done last year, but were sent home after waiting in the OR area. His condition is actually non-threatening at this point in his life, but it needs to be repaired. Hopefully everything will work out and he can go on being the great kid that he is!

It fairly close. It's right on 390 (or 490, I can't remember) and a short trip to the hospital. I would take the Brooks to Genesee Park Blvd. way. The people at the hotel will explain it to you.

You could get a better hotel, but not a decent one that is closer unless you go to the Fairfield (if it is still open) right at the airport itself.

Strong is an outstanding hospital as long as you don't have to wait in the emergency room

Thanks, for the info. We are only paying $30 for the Holiday Inn, (a special rate because this person used to work for Holiday Inns - Internet rate is showing $99)and it will most likely only be used as a rest/shower spot for me and my husband. One of us will be able to stay in the ICU with him, and I would never leave him alone. I do want to feel safe though when I am at the hotel. Do you think that area or the hotel is not that great? We stayed at the Sheraton in downtown Rochester last time, but we were all together since his surgery was cancelled, so I really am not sure.

...my husband is from here originally. He says:
Strong is an excellent hosp. The Holiday Inn is fairly close to the hosp. It's off Rt. 390.
It's a decent hotel & it's location is probably much better than going back & forth from the city. I grew up in the country - & still live more or less in the country - & don't really care to be in the city, but I've gone to that area many times & it's fine.
Mr. J. Cricket gave you decent directions & he's right, the hotel will give you accurate ones. Basically, follow Brooks Ave. east & you should see Hosp. signs - they're all over.
