Something my GP said when he gave me my last prescritpion for labyrinthitis-"Don't carry too many tablets in your hand luggage as they may be confiscated at US customs"
Has anyone ever had any issues with this? I have always carried any prescription medication in my hand luggage so it doesn't get lost.

My understanding is that as long as the quantity does not exceed that on your prescription, or the reasonable amount for your stay, then you're good

now, there is no issue at all with customs, because, it doesn't matter if you fly direct or indirect, you'll need to collect your luggage before going through customs, so you'll have your entire prescription with you either way

if you fear for the quantity of meds, just put them in a small bag in your carry on. As soon as you collect your suitcase, put the small meds bag in a side pocket of your suitcase, go through customs, then take that small bag back and into your carry on again if you need to recheck your luggage.

see, that's just for peace of mind, so your meds are effectively in your checked luggage, but that's pushing it and a bit useless, and anyway you look at it, where your meds are when you go through customs do not matter at all, because you'll have all your belongings, carry on and checked with you for customs inspection

One thing is always take the medication in the box with your name on it. That way if they do stop you and find it you can prove it's yours.
I have never had an issue but I am not sure about the liquid medications as I have had no experience if that.
Some people also say take the slip that lists your medication that you get with the prescription but again never been questioned.

Am taking high amount of morphine pills which are worth a fortune in US but it states on my discharge summary from the hospital that I need them. They help to take the edge off the pain I feel 24/7. I doubt they could disagree with hospital documentation so I would recommend taking your prescription at least. That way if they do have any probs, it will have a contact number for them to confirm why you need them or whatever. Seriously doubt there would be a prob though :)

When I went in 2011, i took 3 different types of prescription only meds, i also took 28 days worth of each , I was only there for 2 weeks but always take more in case of unexpected delays or in case one of us gets ill and needs to stay in the country,
They didn't even bat an eyelid even though they were all in one small area of my hand luggage, and the x-ray would have easily picked them up,

Just make sure the boxes have your name on and for peace of mind you could maybe ask the surgery for a note detailing the meds you need to take with you.

DH has about 14 different pills that he needs following a stroke so when we went in August I put all his meds in their named boxes into a ziploc bag along with a copy of his repeat prescription, and kept these in his hand luggage. I took enough to cover the two weeks we were there, plus a few extra days. His pain medication comes in boxes of 100 so I took out a lot of the strips of pills and left them at home, leaving just enough in the box to cover the hols.

We didn't get stopped or searched at any airport - Manchester, Atlanta, Orlando outward or return.

As chmurf says, it is about the amount you are taking. As long as you aren't taking an excessive amount (many more than the dosage and your length of stay would equate to), then you will be fine.

i always carry a huge stock of betaserc - against the symptoms of labyrinthitis (well - actually meniere's disease, but the symptoms are similar)...
i carry extraordinary amounts as it can't be purchased in the US - so just in case i get stuck there (for some reason), i carry a LOT with me..
I ALWAYS carry it in my hand luggage.....too dangerous to leave it in a suitcase that could go missing...

i have never had an issue at customs....

Between DH and I we take 20 pills a day, so you can imagine the amount of meds we take each for a 3 week holiday! No one has ever even questioned us about what we are carrying and why. Always always carry them in your hand luggage (nightmare if they get lost in hold luggage) and always take your prescription just in case you need to get any emergency supplies.

We usually take them in dosset boxes, each dose in compartments for days of the week, with an extra week's supply just in case.

But really no one has ever cared what we take.

That's what mine is-do you find flying or any of the rides set you off? I have not had an attack since January but prior to that it was about 2 a week for 4 months (including Xmas Day spent in bed ) Already told DH that he can ride the Tea party alone and probably primeval Whirl but hoping I should be OK for other stuff-I always get a bit of motion sickness anyway on rides nowadays-the joys of getting older I guess-so I take a travel sickness tablet before we go to the park each day.

i've been off it for about a year (other than every now and then when i get an attack), but for the ten years prior to that i was taking 16mg a day.....and before that 16 mg/3 times a day...

even though i no longer take it regularly, i always carry at least 3 months worth with me...even when i'm only going for 3 weeks....
as i said, just in case i get stuck in the US (since you can't buy it there)..

whether i'm taking it or not, i still can't ride anything spinny...
(e.g., no carousels, or tea cups, or primeval whirl, or even rock and roller coaster because of the barrel roll)..

however, i CAN ride tower of terror, since it's all up and down motion.....not a problem for me..
also, i go on the wimpy side of mission space without problem (the no-spin side)..
also, for some reason, i'm able to ride space mountain, but only once....(i can ride tower of terror several times in a row)..

I just remembered another one i can't ride - expedition everest...i was told it was nothing, so i rode it....mistake mistake mistake...
i was fine through the forward motion part of the ride...but then it went backwards and i seriously thought i was going to die....it took me several hours to recover ...i was really really ill for quite a while....i haven't ridden it since...

but most things are fine as long as i stay away from things that spin...(carousels, dumbo, aladdin, tea cups, primeval whirl, astro orbiter, rock and roller coaster and expedition everest)....i think that's all that i can't go on at WDW....
