Anyone ever vacation to Fiesta Americana Cancun -or- Sunscape Punta Cana Grand?

My husband & I are trying to plan a non-disney family vacation - HA, this isn't easy!! Anyway, we would like to go to Mexico or the Caribbean & have it narrowed down to Cancun, Mexico or Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. Anyone have any recommendations? I have been reading about Fiesta Americana Cancun & it sounds very nice, but I would love some reviews. I have also read about a place in Punta Cana called Sunscape Punta Cana Grand & it sound nice also.

It is SO HARD planning for a Non-Disney vacation (I don't have a cancunboards.com to go to for one thing!)

I have stayed at Fiesta Americana Cancun, and it was very nice, although it was years ago...1989, I think! It is a small, intimate resort with lots of charm. It is centrally located near the shopping mall, restaurants, nightclubs, etc. Personally, though, I prefer Fiesta Americana Coral Beach. It is a newer resort, the rooms are much larger and the pool is HUGE. I think it was voted as one of the top 10 beach resorts on the travel channel, for whatever that's worth. It is centrally located as well, maybe 1/2 mile from FA Cancun. I've been to Cancun 4 times and stayed at different resorts each trip...Coral Beach is my favorite so far! Also, there is Fiesta Americana Condesa that's supposed to be nice as well, but I've never stayed there.

When I was in Cancun in November they were making renovations to the Fiesta Americana. It looked like a nice resort, and had considered it except that we decided to go all inclusive and that is not an option there. It's on a pretty beach. I didn't take the time to explore it any further with all the construction going on.

a vacation to Punta Cana - the Iberostar Dominicana. But Renatra recently returned from Sun Scapes in Punta Cana. She has lots of pic's / info.

We stayed at the Iberostar Paraiso Beach in Playa Del Carmen and it was very nice! We didn't take our DD along with us, but they have a nice kids club for them there and it is a wonderful resort, with a very nice pool! Here are a few links for you to check out:
