anyone ever use hotwire or priceline?

Hot wire has some deals that look too good to be true. Has anyone ever used them & done okay with it? Thinking of spliting our stay-doing a couple of days w/a hotel through hotwire, and then staying on property, just to save a few bucks, but we don't want to stay somewhere bad because then it's not really worth it. any thoughts or input is greatly appreciated. thanks!

I agree with Diane. Hotwire rates some properties higher than PL. PL tends to have lower prices. Remember you can't cancel or change your reservation.

Some of the 2* properties are ify. I'd try a resort and maybe a 3*. Any lower and you're better off looking through consolidators. A free breakfast may be worth an extra few $$ and with PL and Hotwire you're not sure if you'll get that.

I've booked 2 trips through Hotwire and I highly recommend it. Some people can't handle not knowing where they're staying exactly until after you pay(like my mom) but if you get over it, it's a great deal to be had!

I've booked two trips now using Hotwire - one for the Courtyard Marriott at DTD (now Holiday Inn) and the other for the Doubletree Club at entrance to DTD. I was pleased with both hotels (and even more so with the prices!!). I certainly wouldn't hesitate to use Hotwire again if needed. Just make sure you do your research beforehand!! I knew what I was getting both times before I booked the hotel!

I used Priceline over the summer. I wanted to stay in Savannah for a long weekend and didn't want to spend over $100.00/night.

I ended up staying at the DeSoto Hilton and was very pleased. I would definitely try Priceline again. I like the idea of using the "roulette" method of picking a place to stay.

I agree with everyone's statements about researching hotel prices and how to use Priceline/Hotwire before buying or making a bid on either site. However, if you can deal with a little uncertainty I recommend using them. We cut several hundred dollars off of the price of our hotel by using Hotwire. I prefer Hotwire because I don't really like bidding - but you pay slightly more in fees because you are not bidding. If you have some flexibility and are ok with the system I think that it is worth it. That being said, I don't use Priceline of Hotwire for airline travel because that is one area where I can't be flexible with a carrier (I love Southwest) or times (I don't care to fly at night). HTH

Yikes. I didn't realize that with Hotwire you won't know your travel times until after you pay.

My sister used it and has praises for it.

After checking NorthWest airlines their fares are the same, except you know when you are going.

I'm such a big chicken to try Hotwire.

and got a minivan with unlimited miles for $27 per day! Best price I could find (AAA, Hotwire, etc..) was $41 - so I'm excited!

I've used priceline for hotels in NYC (not Orlando though). We got the Grand Hyatt for $151/nt. I couldn't find a rate there for under $300 even on Travelocity for when we reserved-- so we are pleased w/ our bargain!!

I used Priceline a couple of weeks ago and got rooms at the Doubletree in Cocoa Beach for $44 a night.

I have used both and prefer Hotwire. We have always gotten good hotel deals with Hotwire, we're just careful to review the amenities before we close the deal. I have not used Priceline for hotels, only airfare, and it just didn't work well. The price was good, but I hated the lack of flexibility - we had an emergency that required us to return home earlier than our reservation and couldn't change it.

Since my last post, I pricelined our upcoming hotel rooms in Disney area. I needed 2 rooms and I got for the 1st half of our trip the Sheraton Safari for $37.00 a night. Then I got the Holiday Inn Nikki Bird for $27.00 a night (I know the second gets mixed reviews).
