Anyone ever send in a poem to poetry.com?

I did to get points from Blink, they have a contest, but I didn't give much thought to that, just wanted the points...yesterday I got a letter from them saying I was in the contest semifinals and that they were going to add my poem to thier next book of poems. Of course, if I want a copy of this book it's fifty bucks, and for another twenty five bucks I could include a writers profile to be published along with the poem.

I'm leery okay, so I just sent in my permission for them to use the poem and did not order the book or do the writer profile thing.

Anyone else had this experience?

Hi Jennymouse - same thing happened to me! I entered the contest through Milesource to get some award miles. I just received last week a letter from poetry.com saying that my poem will be published in their book. I think they send this letter out to everyone and try to get $50 from as many people as they can. I just sent in my permission to publish - didn't order the book.

I'm tempted to send in another poem, this time through Blink to get some additional points. Maybe I'll test out my theory and send in a real lame poem and see if I get anything in the mail :)

They do send that to everyone. They would probably send it to you if you wrote "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star" I also sent in a poem, and got the book deal also. I did not buy the book, but a couple of months later they sent me another offer to buy something else with my poem on it. :bounce:

I got the same letter. I'm figuring if they send that letter to everyone, then if you pay, your poem is in the book. If you don't pay, then your poem isn't in the book.

Wow, I find that interesting! I entered a photo contest through Snapfish and got what sounds like exactly the same letter. The book they wanted me to buy was about $60.00 at a "special" pre-publication price for contributors. I didn't order the book - no way would I pay that kind of money, and I haven't heard a thing from them since. I did send in permission to use the photo. The similarities here just kind of make me wonder.....
I haven't done the poem yet. I'll have to try it & see if the letter I get really is the same.

They also say you can go to there website and see your poem. Just try and do that!! Mine was nowhere to be found!!

I also wrote a poem to one of those, and got a letter asking
for my contribution for $ 50. Basically, what it is is that you
are actually paying THEM to publish your poem. You could
write the words "OH POOP" and you will still get a letter
saying that your "poem" will be published. My nephew did
enter this, and he DID get published. It is a large size book,
all poems were in very tiny print, with about 20 poems per
page. Everyone had to pay at least $ 50. and this book was
not for sale in any bookstore. Think about it ...... the
producer of the book made a bundle of money on people who
just wanted to see their poem in print, not actually
published.
