I am not sure if this is the right place to ask. I had posted on the regular community board and someone suggested posting on the Other Hotels and Accomodations but received no replies. I will try here.

Curious if anyone has ever rented privately from the vrbo site. We are not sure where to vacation in 06 - family (well kids) want to go somewhere different, Alaska cruise or preferably Europe. Too bad Rome is not one we can trade to. Not sure yet if this is even possible $$ wise. I would love to surprise them with a trip to Italy. All hotels are for one or two people (some three). Being a family of five, it's very costly. Started to look at some apartments/villas as a possibility.

Any input/advice/experience if you have rented from anyone on this site. I am guessing it's all based on trust like renting DVC points.

Not sure if this will help but last year we used that site to rent in Captiva Florida. We needed a pet friendly house that was near my in laws who live in Ft. Meyers. It was the upstairs unit and it had 3 huge bedrooms and was a beautiful new open floor plan, exactly like the pictures on the website. We had no problems whatsoever and will definetly used VRBO again, especially since it makes it so easy to rent with pets. I am not sure about Europe, but we had a great experience using that site.

We are going to Hawaii in March and renting on the Big Island and Maui using VRBO. So far we have been delighted with the transactions. If all goes well we will definitely do this again. I prefer it to using our DVC points for trades.

We've used owners posting on VRBO numerous times. Never a hint of a problem. But realize each listing is an individual owner and while the 1st may be great, the 2nd may not be. VRBO itself doesn't rent anything, only provides an advertising venue.

yes, we rented a house in kissimmee in january '03 and had a great experience.

Ann - one person on the orlando hotels board - rented from them and got a horrible room.

the last tenants had trashed it - and the owner did not know - neither did VRO -

that can happen when you have an outside owner.

but VRO make it up to them! - so kept your contracts number phone.

Thanks everyone for your replies.

Will decide this winter what we will do for summer '06. It's nice planning when it's 10 degrees outside or there is a foot or two of snow that needs to be taken care of.
