I bought some red grapes and they are HUGE, the size of ping-pong balls. The seeds inside are huge too, they look like 2 shelled sunflowers seeds put together.

I have the space to plant the seeds but I've never planted grapes. Does anyone know how to prepare the seeds and plant them?

No, but I'd love to start a muscadine arbor one day...:)

Can't help you on the growing, but aren't those globe grapes delish? I love them.

Well darn it. I just hunted through my bookshelves twice and I can't find the book I was looking for, called "The After-Dinner Gardener." This guy wrote a book about planting seeds from foods he ate and growing house plants (in his NY apartment, using soil he scavanged from vacant lots :) ). It's a great book, and my oldest daughter and I read sections of it together and planted all kinds of things, including a tamarind that is now a really pretty little 3 ft tall tree. Noteable failures included several mangoes, which are subject to a particular disease...and which probably isn't such a bad thing since mango trees grow to be about 40 ft tall. :lmao: The book was helpful because it told you how to prep seeds, but also what soil conditions the plants prefer, in terms of acidity and moisture levels.

Anyhow...I think that grapes are among those things that you can just shove in dirt, keep it moist, and if the seeds aren't sterile they will grow. There are only a few things (like the mangoes, and avocados) that need more help than that.

Is that what they are called? The sign only said 'seedless grapes .98 a pound" Well, they obviously weren't seedless  but the bag didn't say what kind they were either. I'd never seen grapes so big before.

Thanks for your efforts, at least you gave me the name of a book to look for, I was totally lost as to where to look. I tried googling planting grape seeds but I didn't get much information. I may take a trip to the library tomorrow and see if they have that book.

I'm using grape seeds right now in a classroom experiment. So far, the grape seeds aren't doing much at all.

I'm sure the temperature of the room (ungodly hot) and the lack of sun (bars on the windows) is preventing growth.
