Anyone ever NOT plan? Can it be done???

Of the six trips down, I only planned one trip, and that was the only trip I didn't have the best time! (go figure!). Usually we have a basic idea of what park we want to go to on a certain day, based on hours, or spectro running that night, but we've been known to change our minds if we decide to sleep in, or just don't feel like going to a certain park that day!. DH usually does DiveQuest, so we know which day to go to Epcot. Our March trip was the first time I made a PS (for the Princess breakfast), and a Fantasmic dinner package (because I read about it here on the boards) We have a quick trip planned in 10 days, (our second this year), and we don't have any plans in place, other than to celebrate DH's birthday the day we arrive, but even that's up in the air as to where he wants to go. He'll probably decide once we check into our home (SSR). This non planning is killing my older DD who likes to make our "itinerary", which is actually the rides and attractions we don't want to miss at each park. Our March trip, we didn't pay too much attention to it, and saw and did everything we wanted to. We won't let her make it for this trip, so she's going nuts (how to torture a teenager!!!!).

DH says 'Semper Gumby' (Always flexible)
ROTFL! I'm definitely using that one! :teeth:

We go often (once a month, on average), usually for 2 days at a time, so we generally don't plan beyond which parks we want to hit. Also, we try to decide on at least a couple of new things to do each time.

We never eat in the sit-down restaurants, so we don't have to deal with PS.

Thanks for all the advice. I think we'll manage it, but like was mentioned. I DO have those tickets for MVMCP already and we ARE going to have to decided which day to do the CP and make those reservations.

When talking to DH yesterday, he said he thought it would be wise to make AP's at the places we'd really like so that we don't have to worry about doing that when we're there.

There's really only a minimal number of things we REALLY care to do anymore, and we use our Disney vacations more like "mental get aways", than having to do allot now that the kids are grown. That said, this would be the first vacation since 1986 that I'd have not planned and planned, with schedule in hand. That was OUR "clueless" Disney vacation, and then I got the Unofficial Guide and by 1991 became "enlightened". Since we are also planning on May and then October, I think we can do it!!! "Semper Gumby", my new motto!!! :earboy2:

I made one PS for a character breakfast for our 2 week trip... and then found out that there was available seating even without a PS... Other than that... we plan nothing until the morning of or maybe the night before.
That being said... we've been coming here for 21 years... there's not too much that we'll miss if we've enjoyed it in the past... I wouldn't suggest no planning for a first or second time visiter.

Have a great trip!!

:wave2: princess:

Yes, ofcourse it can be done. Just not by me.

With all of the dining options available, and even accomodations, you could just show up at that visitors burreau office, and let them hook you up with a room, etc... Then, ofcourse, you are at their mercy, and take whats available. I would at least secure accommodations ahead of time. Also, Id be aware of the early morning days, so that you could participate (if onsite) or avoid these parks on those days. Other than that, if you can accept that you may be eating counterservice instead of table service if you cant get a table where you want when you want then go for it.

First times may be lost in all of the choices. I wouldnt advise improvising on the first few trips to WDW

What, are you kidding? I'm far too Type A to not plan!

Although, DH wishes I didn't plan so much. He apparently would rather sleep in on vacation. The one vacation he planned, we spent an hour on a payphone in Florida trying to find a hotel room.

We came up with a decent balance - I got to wake him at 10 am, no matter what. And I made hotel (obviously) and dinner reservations for most days. And I knew which parks would be most conducive to our dinner plans, but I willingly allowed for some movement there.
