Anyone ever make a complete career change at this stage in life??

I went back to school to get my teacher's certificate last fall at age 37 !!!!!!
LOTS of people in my classes doing the same thing!

Attorneys, social workers, you name it...

My school has a certification plus masters program, which is something you may want to do if you already have a Bachelor's.

The first step is to contact an advisor at college near you. They will let you know what you need to do-take GRE, apply for financial aid, etc. It seems like a lot and I was VERY intimidated the first time I set foot back on a college campus.

It's also a HUGE difference going to school as a wife and mom as opposed to just me...

Long- story- short- just finished my second semester. I have a 4.0 and I LOVE school. Have made lots of new friends (most are 20!). Be forewarned-my program is VERY rigorous, with lots of projects, inservice hours, etc. Ed. is NOT an easy major.

Good luck-you can do it!!!!

when I was in law school there were a significant number of people over the age of 30 in my class. some were changing careers midstream, some had actually retired from other careers and were looking for new challenges.

it isn't easy to go back to school. but it can be done. right after I graduated from law school, my mother enrolled in law school. she worked 9-5 as a clerk fo the court and went to school four nights a week until 10:0o for four years. and, oh, yeah, missed two months of school when she had a stroke in the middle of her third year. she graduated on time, passed the bar exam and got a differernt civil service job, one that required a law degree. she retired 18 months ago.

It's definitely not too late! My mom never went to college after high school and regretted that decision. A few years after my sister and I were born, she decided she didn't like her job and wanted to go back to college to get a higher education. She went back in 1989 when she was also 34 and just graduated last year. Of course it took her that long because she only took a class, sometimes 2 a semester. Now she has her degree, but hasn't quite done anything with it, but she plans on it eventually.

I'm turning 34 this year and I still don't know what I want to be when I grow up (besides lottery millionaire!). I was a sports medicine/sport management major in college and managed health clubs for 4 years before burning out at the ripe old age of 25; switched to insurance, and found my way to where I am now... a financial advisor. I still don't think this is where I'm going to be ultimately, but it pays the bills. I'm working on getting my Pampered Chef business off and running and see where that takes me.

Don't let those doubts get in your way of exploring what's out there. You have a lifetime to experience different things!!

You're just a KID! .. well, compared to me at least!

After 22 years in broadcasting, and spending 12 hours a day aWAY from my kid, I now work in marketing for a Senior living center. I feel like God brought me here. The seniors are just so special, each day I learn something and each day I feel like I've accomplished something.

I am also one class away from my real estate license. Going back to school is scary, I graduated from college when I was 20 and I'm 48! All of those feelings came back, my competitiveness, my intent to be the teacher's pet... well, you never really change. :p I loved going to school again, it's so my niche!

Take a chance, life is so short doing something that you're not happy with. I spend all day talking to intellectual, capable, hard working, healthy people over the age of 80. If they're any indication, you haven't even lived HALF your life. Go for it!

:bounce:

God bless,

Robinrs

I was a flight attendant for 10 years, left to go to nursing school full time..........worked as an RN for only 2 years and became a SAHM!!! I am thinking of trying to get a postition as a subsitute school nurse.............

My kids are involved in after school activities and I have one with a learning disability so I need to be available for them. DH works hard and doesn't get home until 5 or 6 PM.......
