My dr suggested cortisone or synvisc. He said I'll " probably" be fine to drive myself home and that the pain is " not that bad". I was just wondering if anyone had one themself and could tell me how it went for you?

Yes, I tried them 2x for injuries and it made my knee hurt worse after the cortisone. :(

My friend just had synvisc last week and she said it went great. I am having Supartz injections starting next week, I can't wait! Its one injection a week for weeks.

My DH had a cortisone injection in his knee and he was fine driving himself home. his knee pain was worse about a week after but then subsided.

I had the cortisone and it didn't really help, but it didn't hurt either. It was pretty painless when they did it.

I had cortisone in my knee, the shot hurt like heck but it quickly subsided and the relief was worth the few moments of pain

I had the same experience. It hurts like a son of a gun when they are doing it, but not so much after and it really helps!

This is what I experienced too. I had no problems driving myself back to work after the shot.

Agree w/PPs. I've had knee shots - weren't painful when they were done nor after. I went to the doctors alone and drove myself to work after.

I do have a friend that had to get a shot in her toe. The actual shot didn't hurt, but she was in a lot of pain afterwards. Feet are a lot more sensitive than knees tho...

Not in my knee, but in my ankle. It hurt at the time, and was sore for a couple days, but no problems driving home right after.

DH had three series of Euflexxa injections. First series helped him a lot. Second series helped some. Third series didn't help at all, because he got the third shot in the series too late, due to his work schedule. However, we know now that the pain in DH's knee we actually referred from his hip, which has bursitis. He's being treated by a great rheumatologist; but, because of the job he does, isn't getting any better. He's just put in for a transfer, so we'll see if it helps.

My mother has done well with Supartz, but doesn't get them regularly.

I had Euflexxa shots in my left knee to treat osteoarthritis probably 10 years ago and have not experienced any pain since:)

I just had cortisone shots in both knees just over a month ago for arthritis. Shots really hurt getting them but the relief was almost instant. no issues driving home or that day. Left knee still feels good right knee not so good.

I have had synvisc as well as cortisone shots in both knees off and on with flare ups for years.

My Dr. is fantastic at giving them, others not as good. He sprays and freezes the spot first, a little pinch then pressure. I believe if you tense up and are afraid of shots it makes it seem worse ;)

Minor soreness a day or so afterward.

I have had 3-4 cortisone injections in my right knee. The shots did not hurt that bad and I had no problems driving home from the doctor. Only one of the shots helped and it took the pain away for almost 2 months. The others did nothing at all. It seems to be a hit or miss type thing.

I have been on cortisone shots 2 or 3 yrs. They are nothing of short of a miracle for both my knees as I need surgery on one and no guarantees surgery will repair 100%. The shot hurts some but it's quick and tolerable, at least doesn't hurt as much as pain in my knees, so it's worth it for me for 4 or 5mos pain free! :goodvibes

DH takes Orthovisc shots, his require a little bigger needle as it contains a Hyaluronan lubricant which is a thicker substance. He's lucky to get 3 mos of relief, as he's trying to avoid knee replacements as long as possible. Medicare allows 2 sets (every 6 mos) of 3 shots each annually.

Aqua therapy is of utmost importance if you have any type of joint pain....we find it very beneficial and highly recommend it for much relief. Good luck...it's definitely worth a try! :goodvibes

I've had 5 Synvisc, 2 Orthovisc, and over 10 cortisone shots in the knees. I have always driven myself home. Yeah, they hurt but not that bad. You'll live.

I've had the cortisone and synvisc and drove myself home after each shot. It didn't affect my driving. Neither one worked for me though and I ended up getting the knee replaced. Best thing ever!

I have had it done on my knee and my hips, I was living in Germany at the time and it was illegal to drive after this type of medical treatment. I could not feel my knee or hip nor the pain, kinda like being frozen. Good luck, these treatments are like putting a bandage where surgery is required, they are a short term fix!

That is a lot of cortisone to be injected- I assume it was over many years. You should not have more than 3 cortisone shots in one year or you put yourself at risk for brittle or fractured bones and destroyed joint cartilage if you get to many.
