My poor boy has stress induced colitis. He has been on Flagyl and only has one dose left. He is better, but it isn't gone.

I know I will be having to call the vet again, but I was just wondering if other's had this experience and how long di it last?

Hi Denine -

My Mackey has stress-induced ulcers in his mouth which keep leading to infections. No sooner do we stop the antibiotic - the infection returns.

I'm not sure what is causing your cat's stress - but since the cause of Mackey's stress (house for sale and lots of strangers coming in and out, introduction to a new kitten a few months ago, pain from diabetic neuropathy, vision problems, old age) isn't going away anytime soon, my vet and I decided to try an anti-depressant/anti-anxiety medication for Mackey.

He is currently on a small dose of Elavil. It's too soon to see if it works (just started it a few days ago), but you might want to talk to your vet about it.

Good luck,
Laura

Thanks for your reply.

We are going to try probiotics. If they don't help, we will go back to the flagyl. Then we will go from there I guess.
