tips for getting through the colonoscopy prep

I already tried the chilling the drink-all that did was make me colder then I already was and the straw trick which didnt work at all

Have you tried adding lemonade crystal light to the prep to help make it go down easier? I added 2 pitcher sleeves of the mix to the prep and it was just right.

When I had the gallon jug it came with a packet of lemonade flavoring. I was told to chill it to help make it taste better. That was a mistake because by the time I finished it, I was shivering.

The stuff I used was supposed to be lemonade flavored but adding the extra made it more palatable.

The flavoring ended up being one reason my mom always had such a hard time.
It used to be put it with Gatorade and then it switched to the flavoring packet and that's what made her end up throwing up because the taste was nasty.
She doesn't use anything to flavor it now and she says that makes it less disgusting.

3. Start the prep and keep warm. Use the wet wipes but don't flush them. Use Vaseline on the but to prevent chafing.

Why “don’t flush” the wet wipes?

Aren’t wet wipes flushable (Dude wipes or Cottonelle wet wipes)?

Just look at it this way, when you get finished you will be about 8 pounds lighter. And in just a few hours. The most effective weight loss program ever. It's only one shot for awhile, but it is a good starter.

They might say they are, but really they are a massive hassle waiting to to clog up anything and everything between your toilet to the wwtp.

That's an insane prep and most likely not necessary at all. I've used the following method twice now with, dare I say, perfectly clean results. I think some doctors are masochists in hiding.

Products:
  • 4 5mg Dulcolax tablets
  • 1 238 gram container of Miralax - non flavored
  • 64 ounces of Frost flavored Gatorade
Procedure
  • Two days before stopped eating at 5pm
  • Day of liquid diet only
    • 2pm - Take two 5mg Dulcolax tablets
    • 4pm - Drink 8 ounce glass of Gatorade solution every 15 minutes for 1 hour (32 ounces total)
    • 7pm - Take two 5mg Dulcolax tablets
    • 10pm Drink 8 ounce glass of Gatorade solution every 15 minutes for 1 hour (32 ounces total)
  • Morning of - wake and eat or drink nothing until procedure is completed

I really didn't mind spending a couple of days eating nothing but Jello and Gatoraide. It was the, shall we say, excretions that I couldn't stand. Procedure itself was easy.

We bought a bidet toilet seat several years ago and it has been awesome for gentle cleansing during colonoscopy prep.

It has been awesome in general:

I would also recommend Monistat Chaffing Relief over using Vaseline, it is less greasy:

Your prep sounds very thorough, I am so sorry. You will feel better once it is over. I agree with previous posters about communicating with your medical team. They are there to help you. I HATE medical procedures, getting an IV is high stress for me, I am going to ask for anti anxiety meds for my next procedure.

I never flesh wipes, even if they say flushable. So I found out somebody was putting dental floss in the toilet after flossing their teeth. And it created a web and we ended up having to have the whole Roto-Rooter thing done. Cost us So much. So I'm very cautious and they always told me never put anything but toilet paper down the toilet.

Completed the colonoscopy today.
It went well.
I had chicken bone broth yesterday. And I could drink pop. So I had a caffeine free Pepsi. That kept me happy.

Last time I threw up forever afterwards in recovery . This time they gave me different anesthesia. It was great.
No migraine. No pukes.
Discharged quickly.
Home to a crock pot lunch. And blankets.

Glad your went good.
Here I thought this week would be it but no
Got the dreaded call a few weeks ago and they had to push it another week so now I have to wait yet another week.
This is the same way the last disaster started.
Im just a bundle of nerves and been this way for 3 months already. The new dr knows I’m a basket case I did ask for a aniexty med but she said she doesn’t recommend it so I suffer.
My poor hubby though. I try to not say anything but he can always tell when somethings wrong.
Oh well just 11 days to go.
Whenever I message the office I’m always told I’ll be in good hands. Funny thing though I needed a different procedure a few years and my then dr said she just loves the anesthesilist. I was not impressed.
I did get the ok that my hubby can stay with me until they take me away and be there as son as my eyes are open. Unfortunately that’s what I was told at the first one when we got there I was told no. Until I had a neltdown then it was ok. I tend not to believe a lot of things I’m told
Thanks for listening

@yeahdisney glad to hear you were able to have the test done in a far more peaceful way. It was brave of you to give it a chance, hopefully all the results come back with good news for you.

DD got to be there in the beginning and he was already in the room when I woke up. The surgeon already gave him the results- I return in 10 years.
