Anyone ever had a dryer fire?

I clean out the exterior house vent a couple of times a year and pull off the front of our dryer and vacuum that out once a year. I replace the metal vent pipe every other year. Those plastic vent pipes should be banned.

Just this week I was thinking that I need to vacuum my dryer since it's been about two years since I've done it. I use a coat hanger to get the lint out where the vaccuum doesn't reach. Oh, and I better vacuum my refrigerator coils too. Haven't done that for a while either.

Being a single mom, if something breaks down I try taking it apart to see if I can fix it myself. Well, something was acting up on the dryer (can't remember now what it was) so I took the dryer apart. That gave me a good chance to get to all the area that is behind the lint trap you clean out after every use. I replaced a part for $15, put the dryer back together...Good as new! :)

How much was the cost to clean out the dryer hose? Do you remember? And who exactly was it that you called?

We did the same thing with our OLD house. We had a plumber come and replace the accordian style hose (that appears to look like heavy aluminum foil) with a thicker/metal, LIKE YOU. I WILL be replacing this hose on this new house SOONER THAN LATER has I hate it, I wish I had mentioned this when the house was under construction but forgot about it and after it was done and we were in the house I inquired.....HHmmm..too late I guess!

If memory serves me right, I paid like $39 for the cleaning. I don't remember who I called but I found this company through a coupon I get in the mail (val-pack or something like that), you know a bunch of coupons sent in an envelope & they have so many different vendors that advertise & offer coupons. It specifically said something about dryer vent cleaning. Maybe if you just look under 'cleaning services' in the yellow pages, you can pin point a service that does dryers. He had all the special attachments that hook on his power vacuum that sucked every little tiny piece of lint right outta there! Again, he showed me all the lint he pulled out of the bottom of the dryer & the venting hose & all he had was a ball of lint about the size of an egg (after nearly 10 years of daily use.)

All these threads though are making me nervous!! I do know that a couple of times I've left my house with the dryer on & my DH has gotten on my case about that! I think I won't do that anymore after reading these scary stories!!
