Anyone ever gone with a 3 1/2 month old?

We are due to have our new DD June 3rd (along with DS8 and DD6), and were thinking of going to WDW in mid-September, about the time that she will be around 3 1/2 months old. I think it will be a lot of fun for the week, since the other 2 kids are old enough to enjoy everything and crowds will be down since school has started, but my DW is hesitant. She's not sure what we'll be able to do with the little one.

Anyone ever gone with one this age? Try to keep it to 3-4 months, since there are DRASTIC differences with a month or 2 at this age and I want to see what people with 3-4 month olds have experienced. The good? The bad? The ugly?

Thanks!

I don't have any answers for you, but wanted to say congrats! I'm due with my second DD on June 9th and we too are hoping to plan a WDW trip in the fall. I'll be very interested in what others have to say. We did take our DD when she was 9 months old and again at 2.5 years. Both trips were great but very different.

Do you have to go in September? It is still very hot, humid, and of course, for those of you with short memories, that's the middle of hurricane season!! pirate:

We took our twins last October when they were 3 1/2 months old and had a great time. You just have to be flexible with your plans because you don't want to over do it with the baby. My wife & I would take turns staying with the babies at the park, in the room or away from the park so that our older two (DS7 & DD2) didn't miss out on the fun.

I LOVE WDW when my kids are that age but only if your DW is willing to nurse in public. There are so many wonderful spots to just relax and people watch while your DH and kids are running about. It is just great. But if I had to go to the special area every 2 hours I'd be irritated and lose my magic. So it depends on the woman, not the baby.

Also, if you do decide, take a Baby Bjorn & a stroller. Then the baby and mom can enjoy almost all the rides at Magic Kingdom while still having her hands free, plus you can wear the baby lots too. My dh has all kinds of photos with my kids at WDW asleep on his belly while we rode.

I loved it.

We brought DS when he was a few days short of 4mos. We had a great time. It was much easier than when he was 1 and 2. We were able to take him on most rides, except for the obvious ones.

My biggest tip is to rent a car. In all my previous trips I never rented a car. I always thought Disney transportation was great. Then we went with a baby, getting on and off crowded busses with a baby, diaper bag, and stroller was a real PITA. Ever since that trip we have rented a car. Once the kids are out of the stroller stage we'll go back to Disney transportation.

First I'd like to say Congrats! Best wishes to your wife for a healthy pregnancy. Regarding your question, we went in Oct. with my son (14 months at the time) and my niece who was 3 1/2 months. It was hot (103 degrees one day) and with the two babies we didn't spend too many daylight hours at the parks. We stayed at BCV and were able to take advantage of the pool during the heat of the day and my niece spent a number of hours either indoors or in the shade napping. She was very good and it didn't make the trip any more difficult just because she was an infant-we all enjoyed ourselves immensely.

Good luck with your decision. Have fun if you decide to go.

Our DD was born on May 17, 2003 and we went the first week in August 2003. It was HOT, but we kept her out of the sun. We spend a lot of time in the building where you can buy your pictures at (cannot remember the name) at MK--there are lots of little quiet places to take her to nurse her.

Also a clip on fan I found was a MUST for the stroller. You want to shield baby from the glare of the direct sun (so we use long blankets draped over the stroller hood), but you need to make sure baby has air. We order some clip on fans from one of the baby stores on line. Clipped them on the tray and it was a lot cooler in baby's stroller than outside.
We brought a bjorn carrier also, but found that the heat was too intense for her--so we usually kept her in the stroller during the day outside of the direct sunlight.

We have a lot of picture with characters holding her. They would get on the ground and motion for us to hand her.

Good luck with your decision.

So glad u posted this because I'm in the same exact situation. We are planning to go in April when my DD will be almost 4 months old. I a little nervous because I don't know what to expect. We will also be taking our 7 year old DD. It'll be our 3rd time at WDW but the first with an infant. We are renting a minivan and driving down there with my sister and her 3 teenaged kids.

I'll post when I get back and let you know how it went for us. Hopefully we'll both have fun-filled and not too stressful trips.

We went on our first DCL cruise and then 5 days in the parks when our youngest was just over 12 weeks. We have 3 older ones so our family is "busy." I think it is actually easier to go with them at that age. But I agree with one of the other posters---mom has to be comfortable nursing in public. Well, she doesn't have to be--but it sure makes life easier. And I just carried the baby in a sling the entire time and he slept, nursed, slept and nursed. Then whenever we went on a ride I would just hop on. Didn't have to worry about taking babe out of a stroller, waking them up, etc. etc. Plus the sling kept them secure against me during a ride---even if it was a calm ride like Peter Pan I still get nervous about them being jostled or bumped from my arms. (Check out slingbaby.com)

I think it will be a great time to go to WDW. We went a few years ago in Sept. Low crowds--a bit warm ---but I love Disney anytime!! Have fun!!

Thank you so much for this thread! We are headed to WDW in late April with DS who will turn 15 weeks during the trip. We are staying at CR to get a bigger room and make the trip more convenient but we were still a bit nervous. I am glad you confirmed that the sling works most efficiently as that is what we were thinking.

This will be our third trip in 2 years so we do plan on taking lots of breaks and may forego AK and only do MGM once to avoid the buses.

Anyone ever been in late April? We went last year in mid-May and found the parks moderately crowded (compared to September when we usually go) and the weather relatively hot (again, compared to September when we usually go).

Thanks again to those who responded - very helpful!
