Someone posted recently that they were going to Nashville and that got me thinking of my beloved Opryland! It was a favourite place of mine (along with WDW). Anyone ever go there? What do you miss about it now that it's turned into a mall??

We used to go there all the time.:( I loved it.:( My favorite ride was the Wabash Cannonball (which I've heard WDW bought and is now the RnR:bounce: ). I refuse to go to that @#%^ mall.

I have a park map from my last trip there.:) My dd has a little plastic canteen purse she got on our last trip there. It has the Opryland logo on it.:) I have a lot of good memories from that place.:(

When I saw this thread I immediately thought of Browneyes!

I went with my family for a few consecutive years in the early 80s. I have not been since it left so have not seen the mall.

The Wabash Cannonball was my first "real" roller coaster and I loved it!

Of course, I liked the Angle Inn too. (That is Opryland and not Six Flags, isn't it?)

We lived in GA for two years, (this ten years ago) and we visited Opryland. I was really surprised when I found out that it was closed.:(

It's really a shame. It was a nice park, and they seemed to do a good job of maintaining it.

We went to it. It also used to be a favorite "big" trip for quite a few youth groups, classrooms, etc. too. I think I enjoyed the shows the most. I too miss it!:(

I was out working making good $$ in the real world when my parents had their 25th wedding anniversary. I told my mom I wanted to treat them to a weekend somewhere to thank them for all they had done for me. She picked Opryland and insisted I go, too. We rode the Wabash Cannonball at least 10 times, watched the great shows, etc.

I also got really good tickets to the Grand Ole Opry and one of the "oldie" singers came out and sang a song - I think it was about a yellow speckled bird or similar. If you ever saw the pictures of teenage girls screaming over the Beatles, this was my mother screaming over this old man.

What great memories. I'm sad they closed. We now go to Dollywood - good but not the same!

The Walbash Cannonball is at Dollywood I believe. Dolly bought several rides from Opryland.

Interesting to hear what happened to the cannonball! Anyone know what happened to the indoor rollercoaster, Chaos? Also, the short lived Hangman rollercoaster?? I have often wondered what happened to all those wonderfully talented performers! I hear Mike Snider is still performing and does some shows in Nashville. The Cumberland Boys split up but the tenor started a new group called the Cumberland Quartet. Ahhh memories! :(

I actually wasn't overly impressed with it then (around 85). I did like that Wabash Cannonball, but if I remember correctly that was pretty much the only big ride they had. I remember lots of music shows and some smaller rides. I did love the thing that you could ride in the air to get from one side of the park to the other. My step sister and I rode that thing a dozen or more times I believe. It was the highlight of the trip, lol. I also went to the Mall that is there now, last year. It was weird being there knowing that at one time it was a themepark and now it's a huge parking lot and mall. My best friend lives in Nashville and I've been there a few times to visit him and I must say that the whole town has really lost it's magic. Downtown is virtually dead now. It's sad really. We went to the Ryman Autitorium with my kids several years ago and it was such a disappointment. You don't get to go up on stage anymore or into the dressing rooms. I couldn't wait to show them the bench that was build around the wooden post.....

I'm kinda glad they did away with it and twitty city... I never did like it

I'll take the huge mall anydays, mall of america is to far away so I can aleast go back to tn for a huge mall.

The walbash cannonball is the Tennessee Tornado at dollywood.

Opryland's big problem was that it was very dependent on shows. However, the last years they never changed the shows which meant locals like me had no reason to go. And it needed locals to stay in business. The mall is nice, but nothing you can't find someplace else. (Plus after people spent 8 HOURS stuck on the Hangman, there was no way I was getting on that ride. LOL! )
