Anyone ever get a spray tan?

I'm going to WDW in a month and I'd like to have a tan for my trip. I'm pretty pale and burn way easier than I tan and skin cancer runs in my family so I've been considering getting a spray tan.
Anyone ever do this? Is it expensive? Do you have to get naked? Is it natural looking? I don't wanna come out looking like an oompa-loompa.
Also, how long does it last? So I know how far in advance I can get it done.
Thanks in advance!

I did a few years ago. OMG! I looked like I had sprayed myself with orange Koolaide! :rotfl2: It was awful!

If you don't get naked, whatever you wear isn't going to be wearable ever again. It took about a month for it to start fading, despite the scrubbing and scrubbing I did.

Yikes! Thanks for the warning. Maybe I should reconsider...

My daughter got one before a pageant last year (she was 17 not a little girl) anyway it lasted for a couple of weeks. It looked pretty good on stage but when you got up close there were some streaky places. Her's wasn't orange though.

I recently had a "Fantasy Tan" done here in New Jersey. Dont know where you live but i highly recommend it. this isnt the kind where you stand in a booth, this is when someone actually sprays you. you can get light, medium or dark. i got the medium and you cant shower for 8 hours. the fantasy tan lasts about 7 or 8 days, but you have to use lotion every day and no bar soap. i wore a bikini, would never go naked!! but you could if you wanted. I couldnt believe how great the tan looked, everyone complimented me on it. you really have to exfoliate well before you go also. Check out Fantasy tan in your area.

I live in Maryland and have not heard of a Fantasy Tan but it sounds interesting. I would consider going naked if I were in a booth alone, but not with someone spraying me down.

I've gotten the Mystic tan done a couple of times at a tanning place here. You do have to "tan" nekkid to get the best results. I had to watch a short video before the first time. They want you to apply lotion on your knuckles, toes, and elbows so that you don't get extra dark in those areas. I thought mine turned out well. I've seen some pretty bad ones that did have an orange tint. In the winter I'm ghostly white so when I did the spray tan I did the lighter tan. That may have been why mine turned out ok. I think it was $15 each time and it lasted a couple of weeks.

When I did it, I did it in a booth with a machine that sprayed me.

My niece had her first prom in April. I paid the lady that does our hair to do a spray on tan for her. The lady went and bought the spray for us. My niece wore an old tank top and pair of women's brief underware for her to be spray in. I would do this, if I had a reason to do it.

She did it 4 days before the prom. She was also told not to shower until late the next day. One thing that she did run into, is the next day she got really sweaty and the tan ran.

If you exfoliate good, and REALLY slather on the 'barrier cream' on your hands and feet - and you dont turn 'orange' from any self tanner - then youll be fine.

I love spray tans. :thumbsup2

did the same thing, looked great. People couldnt believe it wasnt real
I also agree it is important to exfolliate before

Hmm.. I'm concerned about the story of it running when the girl sweat. There's no doubt I'll be sweaty in the August heat. And I'll definately be in the pool everyday as well!

Alright, the self tanner itself - does not run. The bronzer in it would, but you'd wash that off before you'd be down there.

The pool on the other hand....nothing ruins a self tan faster then pool water.

:sad1: Looks like I may just have to blind everyone with my pale legs then. There's no way I'm skipping the pool!

It doesnt disappear - but it just fades quicker.

What *I* personally have done - is get your spray tan. And also bring a bottle of Jergens - that subtle stuff. So, after youve showered, or after the pool - use that stuff to maintain it AND because it's subtle, you wont have streaky lines or anything.

Like I said - I love self tanner. :lovestruc

Good idea! :thumbsup2

But for real - they tell you about the barrier cream - and the first time I went, I was like "Im not loading this stuff on - I dont want white hands and feet!"

So - I barely put any on.

Nothing like Bronzed, Alligator Scaley looking hands! I'll tell you - I was beating men off of me with hands like that!!!

Barrier Cream until you cant be barrier'ed anymore. And then be careful when you get in and out of the contraption. It can be slippery. Imagine slipping, falling, having that thing start and them finding a half bronzed, naked lady laying in their booth. No thanks.

ALSO - go naked. The results are just better. :thumbsup2

:rotfl:
I appreciate all these warnings!

;)

Seriously - first and foremost - have you ever used a self tanner? If you have, and you havent turned orange - dont worry about that. I read somewhere the only 'active' ingredient that is giving you a 'tan' is DHA - and DHA will either turn you orange, or it wont.

If I were you, and hadnt ever used it before - try some stuff at home, on like your butt cheek, first.

Keep in mind - what looks orange to you, might not look orange... you might not be used to your skin being 'colored' so it might look funny, so show someone. Maybe the butt cheek is a bad place. :rotfl:

ANd then check this out:

This is a really, really, really good website with a lot of info about all aspects of self tanning. :)

Thank you for all this info! I have tried a self tanner once, and it didn't make me orange- just really streaky and blotchy.

Yeah - then you'll be fine.

Ummm - be sure to exfoliate. I personally use that Oil of Olay in the shower Moisturizer....

Okay, this is what I'd do if I was going to get it done.

  1. I'd take a shower and shower poof me really hard. Especially my elbows / knees etc.
  2. Then I'd use the in the shower Oil of Olay (but any good moisturizer will do - just make sure it's not 'thick' because it will kinda be like that barrier cream.
  3. Wear dark colors - if they have it the non-bronze option - I'd choose it. The bronzer is just a temp thing and is just messy anyways.
  4. Put your hair in a pony tail, or back off your face.
  5. Go get it done - and be all wicked generous with the barrier cream.
  6. Be careful not to slip (remember naked, half bronzed lady)
  7. Then sleep with it on. The longer it's on - the darker it gets - maximum 8 hours.

I often mixed self tanner with lotion - before they made the Jergens type stuff, and never was streaky.

Youll be fine. Like I said - I really like self tanner.

Oh, oh, oh.... and if youve got a bronzey nude lipgloss, for some reason I always look tanner when I use one. :thumbsup2 I like these. Both nude and beige sun are great!

ANNNNND since youre going to WDW, you can pick this up at the EPCOT Guerlain shop in France! :thumbsup2 It's one of my naughty little pleasures... lipgloss ***ahhhhhh*** ;)
