Just got our private pilot’s license and want to do an Orlando trip in the near future..... well, right after we do the Bahamas!!

Do you fly with your little ones, and how little? We have friends that have flown with their children as small as 4 weeks, but I really worry about hearing protection. Little people DO NOT like to wear headphones, and heck, try and find a tiny pair!! Those headrest inserts for their car seats and earmuffs are good ideas, but still not the best protection for prolonged noise....

Anyhow, just wondering which airport you thought was best as far as location and amenities. I was thinking Sanford but am not sure.

Would love to hear from other private pilots!!!

(Charleston to Myrtle Beach in 26 minutes last weekend)whoohoo!!!

will you be flying? I will ask my son, the Embry Riddle graduate what he thinks. :D

What kind of plane do you all own? We didn't fly to Orlando in a private plane, but have to Alabama and to Panama City, as well as many smaller trips. Are you in a prop plane? Single engine or double engine?How many does it seat? Is this a plane where you need the headphones on to hear/speak? If so, I would say it is not the ideal environment for small children. Also, how long would this trip be for you and have you flown this far before? What is the farthest you have flown with your children before in this type of aircraft? Do only one of you have your pilot's license? How old are the children? Turbulance/storms in small planes and children aren't the best mix. There are many factors that I would put into this decision. I would love to help you out if I had some of these answers. :D

For now we fly a single engine Cessna, 4 seater, oh yes we need those headphones.
Orlando would only be a two-hour trip for us.
My son is 2 months old now, and has never flown.... well.... only in my tummy. So that is why we are talking to other pilots about their experience with children flying with them in 172s and 182s. We met one couple that have flown with their son since he was two weeks old with no protection, and now he is 18 months and likes to use the headphones every once in a while, but mostly just sleeps the whole time they are in the air. I am so so worried about prolonged exposure and possible damage. Their child has had no problems what so ever, and they told us about some of their friends that have not had any hearing problems with their children either.
We haven't joined any clubs yet or gone to any meets to ask others, so that is why I'm starting here.
I know there are lots of places to fly into in the Orlando area, and figured folks have tried several, so we wanted to know which you liked the best.

private planes. He says:

The airport that person should goto if they want to see Disney would be
Kissimmee Airport (ISM). It's the closest airport and it's not too busy.

He is not familiar with flying with children but I can understand your concern. 2 hours is a long time in a small plane. Seems like you can carry a brief case for luggage. LOL Perhaps the two of you could try it first before bringing your child. Good luck with your flying adventures. :D

We fly a twin engine and both our kids have flown since they were 3 months old.
I was also worried about their little ears. I would put their hood up and wrap a blanket around their head so it covered their ears.(this was when they were in the infant seat and they still couldn't support their heads.) My daughter did get airsick once when we flew to Arizona, but it was really bumpy. Now that they are older I give them dramamine. We have flown from MI to AZ with our kids that young. They have no hearing probs whatsoever and the oldest is 5 now! Good luck--oh and we also flew into Kissimmee last year to go to Disney, I'll have to ask my husband what fbo we flew into. It took us forever to get a taxi!!
