Was it good? Is only sandwiches or is a buffet? When is it open? I've read conflicting descriptions of this restaurant. I cannot believe that in all of the years I've been going to Disney, I never knew this was a restaurant!!!:rotfl:

I've never actually eaten there, but I did go in and get a drink during our last trip. It was, at that time, a counter service place.

Ate there a couple of years ago and it was sandwiches. But the show was great. As good if not better than Hoop-De. Not sure if they still have the show. Anybody aware?

It is technically not in use as a restaurant full-time. They open it only when it's busy and they need more dining options in MK. When they do open it, it's sandwiches at lunch. Dinner is not a buffet, but the same family-style meal served at Liberty Tree Tavern.

Unfortunately, the show has been discontinued. Even when it's open as a restaurant, there is no show.

We ate there during our last visit. We usually eat at Columbia Harbor House, which is our favorite CS restaurant, but the line was out the door. Since we were hot, exhausted, and extremely hungry, we went into the Diamond Horshoe just across the way. It wasn't horrible, but you could definitely tell that it was only opened when the parks are busy. They have your typical CS selections, and the food was nothing to write home about. CHH is much better!

I was going to post about the last time I ate there in 1977 but I guess you are looking for a more recent review. :thumbsup2

But I'm going to anyway.

It was the only place at the time, at least as I recall (I was 15 at the time), that you had to make reservations. You did this in the morning and they were gone quickly. This was way before the internet or I think even guide books so my father must have been told by the guys he worked with to get there early. We actually wanted to go 1976, but when my father called for a Fort Wilderness res in December they were booked up for the end of July.

So we get there for lunch and I think you were assigned a table. Then someone in your family would get the CS food from one of the windows. I recall is was a drink, probably a large, 12 oz back then :lmao: , a bag of chips and this is where it gets sketchy, a pretty plain sandwich on Wonder bread like bread wrapped in plastic wrap.

So you got your food and while you ate, they had a real live show with real Can Can dancers (probably why I forget everything else ;)), jokes and singers. Almost what you would expect from HDDR.

I guess after a while it got too expensive. :sad1:

Oh here is a pic see what I mean.

When did they stop the show?

I just found a site that said 2003. Which is odd because I was there in 99 and would have looked into eating there. :confused3

WOW!!! I love this pic!!! :rotfl: Thank you for this fabulous review! :goodvibes

1) Ah, the Diamond Horseshoe !
2) We loved that place.
. . . cute "Western" floor show with dancing, singing and jokes
. . . audience participation on and off stage
. . . snacks and sandwiches and soft drinks
. . . nicely air conditioned on a hot day
3) The labor costs became too much for WDW budget constraints.
. . . dancers
. . . comics
. . . other performers
. . . musicians
4) They shut it down with little fanfare.
. . . Del Monte stopped its sponsorship, and the show closed in 2003
. . . become Goofy's Country Dancin' Jamboree, closed in 2004
5) Now, it is an overflow eatery for LTT in busy seasons.
. . . counter service and sandwiches for lunch
. . . family-style all-you-can-eat for dinner (same items as at LTT)
. . . recommended ADR's for either
6) In most cases, not worth the effort
7) WHAT A PITY to kill off such a nice attraction !!!!

NOTE: The Disneyland version is The Golden Horseshoe. They
have counter service, and still the floor show with "Billy Hill and
the Hillbillies", bluegrass music and comics.

Thanks for a trip down memory lane. On our first visit, 19 years ago, we had the same lame lunch you had. But the show was great. Our oldest, who was five, was pulled up on stage with a magician. He pulled a string of Mickey underwear out of sleeve and asked our DS whose they belonged to the DS replied, "Those our my brothers!" The place fell apart. Didn't have movie cameras back then, but wish I had captured that one!

We went for dinner during our trip last Thanksgiving week. The menu was exactly the same as Liberty Tree Tavern. No big whoop.

What a great history! Too bad I didn't see it in it's prime.:)
