Anyone ever done a Transatlantic RT?

My understanding is that something like this has to be done with two separate cruise lines, as these sailings are usually seasonal re-positioning cruises for a given ship (i.e., it's not going to sail across the Atlantic, swap out passengers, and then turn right back around for home). So, DCL one way, and RCCL or Norwegian or whatever on the way back.

A full month on cruise ships sounds like an awfully long time, but I was wondering if anyone here had tried it and what you thought about the experience.

?

Thx.

Most east bound TAs are in spring and westbound are in fall - the only line I know of that goes back and forth is Cunard. You could do a DCL one way and Cunard the other - talk about two different experiences!

There's a ship that's sails from NYC to England they do transatlantic than turn around and do another transatlantic. This was a few years ago don't know if they still do it. Most ships go to Europe for the summer and return to the carribean in the fall.

Cunard offers round-trip transatlantic crossings. www.cunard.com. Since they sail regularly, you might be able to find a return cruise that matches Disney's dates.

HAL is doing an itinerary that goes between Boston and Amsterdam summer of 2017. It's pretty much going back and forth a few times-- lots of stops in Norway, Iceland and Greenland. I don't know when the first one begins, but it might be an option if you want to do one leg with DCL.

Well, others have responded as to the logistics of a B2B transatlantic. We've been onboard for 24 nights (10 Med/14 night TA). And recently did a 24 night river cruise. Also did a Fantasy B2B (14 nights) following a Dream 4 nighter - 18 nights cruising with a couple of days at WDW. And a 21 night Panama Canal cruise.

We like the longer cruises. The only issue I've run across was along about day 20 I start wishing I could just have a McDonald's burger for dinner. But the cruises themselves, not tired of those.

We did a bxbxb ( transAtlantic, Baltic, and Norway) for 29 days last summer with some dear friends. It was so much fun. We enjoyed every day and would gladly do it again.

I suprised you can make it to day 20. Usually by day 5 Im starting to crave all kinds of things that arent "cruise food".

Probably has to do with the fact that I'm not cooking, or even planning the meals. I love to relinquish the reins on that to someone else for vacations. But I've done it for so long that the urge for "regular" food starts to kick in after about 3 weeks.

We were on a Viking River Cruise and got tired of ship food. It truly was awesome food but we had the craving. We had to search out McDonald's in Vienna just for a junk food fix. LOL. Sometimes you just need to cave in. Funny part was that other people from the cruise did the same thing.

Who did you do the Grand European River cruise with ? We are looking at a couple different ones and don't see a lot of difference.

Vantage. They are a smaller company, with only like 4 ships. They don't work with travel agents (since they are their own TAs, and do other types of trips besides river cruises), and they cater to US travelers primarily. We really liked them. We've booked a China trip (with a short river cruise as part) next year.

Our trip from from Bucharest (Constanta) to Budapest/Budapest to Cologne. They no longer go from Constanta on the Bucharest end, but from Ruse.

I'm not a big fan of fast food the only time I really eat it is when were on a road trip. On our Hawaii cruise we stopped at Taco Bell in Hilo. The Dorito tacos tasted so good. I haven't been back to a Taco Bell since.

I know your question was for Shmoo but I thought I would chime in. We did the Grand European River Cruise with Viking. Started in Amsterdam and ended in Budapest. Best cruise we have ever been on. We like Viking so well that we are now booking for a Baltic Ocean cruise with them.

That itinerary looked very appealing to us -- I think it was a 21 day cruise. But I didn't even look at the fares!

We did the same B2B2B last year and loved it. We just got off a 7-night cruise and it felt so short after that 29-nights. :)
