Anyone ever do Dance Dance Revolution as a workout?

My daughter was playing Dance Dance Revolution this weekend, (which I might add that I really suck at it), but it has a workout mode that you enter your weight etc. I never really thought of this as a workout tool.

For those of you not familiar you play it with a pad that you step on, and its played on Playstation.

I know that sometimes even when I cant get the steps right, I still get winded, so I am sure once you built yourself up to the fast ones you could get a super workout. Plus, it takes so much concentration on the screen that I would think you would forget about the time.

I was just wondering if anyone else uses this as exercise, or one form of it?

We do in our house. We have DDR Max for Playstation 2 and also Disney DDR which was originally for PS1 but works in PS2. Our 3 1/2 year old likes workout mode because it doesn't kick you out if you don't keep up with the steps. I just keep trying but I stink at it too and I actually used to study dance. I figure it has to be as good as some low impact aerobics and we take turns on the pad, but keep trying the dance steps even when it's not our turn.

We love DDR around here! We have two...can't remember the name of the one, but the other is the Disney one. That's the one we usually play! It is a good workout and the tunes are catchy. There is one problem with it though....we all have to take turns! So I get to dance for 3 minutes then have to wait for about 9 minutes for my turn. Of course, I do it in the background, but never know if I'm doing the *right* moves.

Saw a guy once at the arcade outside of Space Mountain who did one of the advanced levels and got EVERY step right. He was all over the place!! Pretty cool to watch, but I think it would have bought me a trip to the ER if I tried that!

Yes! DDR is absolutely incredible! I'm a huge video game freak, and I really enjoy playing DDR. Unfortunately, there aren't that many DDR arcade machines here in Memphis (4, by my last count) and I can't play the home version here because I live on the second floor of an apartment building and the people downstairs would think that an earthquake was going on ;)

It's funny when I do play, though, because I get all these strange looks when I get on the machine, like, "This big fat guy isn't going to do well at this!" Oh well, I don't care. I can pass some level 5 songs and one level 6 song (highest is 10) so I'm sort of an intermediate.

When I was at WDW about a month ago, I had to play the Disney version they have in the Tomorrrowland arcade. It was fun. :)

If anyone wants some more info about DDR, this is a good place to go--

We have the Playstation 2 version of DDR, but I had no idea there was a disney one. I just did a search online, and it looks like fun. How are the graphics? Is it fast, and do they play all the cool Disney songs???

The Disney one is great. Quite jazzed up versions of theme park attraction songs and movie songs. It is fast. Fast enough for me to get my feet tangled up (and I just do the slow songs!)

The Disney DDR is out of print. We got ours off of ebay...I think we paid about $40. It was for dad for father's day! :)

Here's a link to the current list of DDR Disney items on ebay. :)

I found my Disney version on a clearance rack at Fry's Electronics for $14.99 - you might check the clearance rack or sale rack and see if you find one there.

Thanks,
I will try to see if I can find it somewhere else first. You never know. I also saw that they had them on Amazon.com.

I think I would like to exercise to the mouse, that would be fun!!
