Anyone ever do a sweet sixteen at DVC?

I only read her first comment - will try to read the rest. I just wanted to comment that 14 days? That's a big NO NO - for me anyway. I would not even want to be with a family member or my best friend for 14 days. I think even a week is pushing it. Going back to the boy in the report, that's crazy.

I hear ya on that one..one of the girls we will be taking has gone away with us for a week for a couple of summers now...everything went well. 2 weeks is too long for so many females to be together LOLOL! We will be leaving after school on Weds, and flying back that Sunday...just enough time I think. One thing though, since the schools will be closed Thur and Fri, the girls will have homework to do - either on the plane ride or during our trip..their choice, but it has to be done before we head home :(

We celebrated my DS 13th birthday - but only with one friend. I paid for the whole trip, tickets, plane, food. The parents gave the friend about $100 for spending money - he had never been to WDW before. We went last November.

One thing we did do - that would be fun for you - we made ADR's for the Crystal Palace for breakfast the day of DS's birthday before the MK was open. I think it was for 8 am, the park opened at 9 am. It was the first time we ever ate there and plan to return, we enjoyed it. We arrived at 7:30 - we walked over from BLT (we stayed there just the one night) we had Main St all to ourselves for pictures etc. It was a very magical experience. The table at the CP was decorated with confetti etc. It was really nice. The 2 boys were good sports posing with Winnie and gang. LOL

I orignally wanted to bring one, but she is very close to 2 friends..however, 3 is a baaaaddd number of girls to bring - no matter how close they all are, someone could get left out. Also with the rides and such - is the 3rd going to sit with me? No way! That's why we said either one friend or three - need a nice even number LOL! I was thinking of CP since we never ate there, so that's a great suggestion!

We have not done a 16th Birthday Party. But in October, we were at California Grille for dinner. The table behind us was a sweet sixteen party. When wishes fireworks started the party went out to the observation deck to watch. As soon as the girls left, the staff cleared the table and brought out a sweet sixteen Disney cake and decorated the table. Everything looked fantastic and the girls were blown away when they came back from watching the fireworks.

That sounds awesome! I was planning on getting a cake to surprise her too. We have to be careful where we eat b/c one of the girls has a peanut allergy and I don't want to wind up in Celebration Hospital! I was also thinking of doing one of those fireworks cruises. Anyone ever do one?

All three of my kids have a peanut allergy. Years ago we got our youngest son a cake at Chef Mickey's for his 4th b'day. They made it so not to cross contaminate anything with it. If you call ahead and let them know I am sure they can do the same. GOOD LUCK.

DW and I get to pick where we go on your 30,40,50... birthdays...

For my 30th, I chose WDW! We rented a convertable and had a wonderful time...

DW turns 30 in Jan of 2012, she is deciding between a disney cruise, Aulani and Mexico... (with Ireland having a lot of interest, but not as practical)

We have 3 sons (9,3,2) and have decided that we will let them pick where they get to go on there 15th birthday... DS9 is already dreaming of places!

I think that if you can afford to take friends, do it! You are really close to having your daughter off to college (or just starting her own adult life). Go, enjoy, and make in magical!

The firework cruises are fun. :thumbsup2

Have fun! I did a 13th birthday trip for my DD last year with her and my mom. We had a blast. Also did CP for breakfast on the real birthday and it was magical.

One question...what kind of party is more expensive than a trip to WDW for 4 teenage girls on the DDP?? :confused3 I'm pretty sure I do not live in that world! :rotfl: But, everyone in my family would pick the trip either way. :goodvibes

My brother had my neice's Sweet 16 in Disney this past March. They had a wonderful time... she was allowed to pick 3 girls & they stayed at BWV. It was a 5 day stay and they had a great time...no major problems.

is there any way you can move the trip back a week or so?
it is unlikely you will get a BWV 2-bdrm during the F&WF at 7 months (MS said the BWVs were almost sold out for Oct 2011 2 weeks ago:eek: we were looking for a studio, and booked one of the last available; there are a lot fewer 2-bdrms).

yes, it is possible, but a very long shot, whereas you have a much better chance just by moving it up a few days. i believe the official start of 2010's F&WF was oct 1, with a soft opening the day before. we were staying at the BWVs during that time, and the difference in crowds was amazing.
btw, i can think of no better place for a sweet 16th - there is so much to do and see at the BW, they are likely to never be bored :)

have a great time planning!

This is a wonderful idea....now you have me thinking that I need to plan something big for my DD in a few years! :rotfl:

I did want to chime in on taking friends though. We took my DS's friend with us one year and had no problems at all. (We even had my DH's parents with us too!) This friend was 2 years older than my 17 year old son so we got them a studio just down the hall from us at VWL and they were fine. We paid for the larger things except his park tix and he got to bring his spending money. He and my DS had a wonderful time.

I read the thread mentioned by a PP and was horrified! :scared1::scared1:

But it can work....have a great time!

We changed the dates of the trip to 8/27-8/31. This way we don't have to worry about missing school if the flight back is late, or a little problem called homework lol. However, because of this, one of her friends may not be able to go :( This is the week before school starts and that is when soccer "hell week" is. Her friend is an awesome player - made Varsity as a Sophmore! I was speaking to her mom, and she can miss 1 practice, but 3 is a problem. She most likely will make varsity again. Scouts will be coming to the games, and since Junior year is soo important for this, she would be missing out on a great opportunity for a college scholarship if she was not let on the team due to being away. I am broken hearted over this :sad1: This is her friend that has never been to WDW. She is like a second daughter to me too. I was looking at airfares and possibly going the week before, but they are double what we would pay now. We are trying to work around it. Her mom is calling the coach monday to see if there is a solution they can work out b/c she was on the team this year. We don't want to see her give up a great opportunity like that for a trip to WDW. We could use a little pixie dust ..hopefully we can work it out. It's so sad to see two girls upset like this.
