Hi There!

Very excited...just booked a 5 night cruise on Royal Caribbean's Explorer of the Seas for April. Going to be traveling with my sister and my parents. Both my sister and I are leaving the hubby's at home with the kids at school and going on an adventure.

Have cruised many times before, but never to Bermuda and was wondering if anyone who has been there has any suggestions on what to see or do...or how to save money while there?

Would love to hear about your adventures!
Thanks!

Have you been to cruisecritic.com? It's the DIS equivellant for cruising. They have a ports of call section on their boards where you can get lots of ideas.

I have not cruised to Bermuda yet, but it looks like the whole family may be going next year. :)

LORAJ: I have been to cruise critic. That's my second home next to the DIS!

Just curious what people on here thought about Bermuda.

Thanks!

My 1st DH and I cruised to Bermuda for our honeymoon. The cruise was great. The marriage not so much.

It was a long time ago, but I remember having a lot of fun on various excursions (snorkling, glass bottom boat). I also remember drinking a lot of rum! Bermuda was beautiful and it was fun just to explore the ports of call.

Not only have I cruised to Bermuda, I lived there for five years when I was younger (military father, used to be a base on the island...just dumb lucky).

Bermuda is one of my favourite places in the world. So much so that I had my wedding there three years ago...that's when we cruised.

I'll try not to let myself get carried away, but there is a lot to see and do in spite of the island being so small. Definitely see the South Shore beaches (Horseshoe Bay, Warwick Long Bay, Stonehole Bay are three of my favourites), Gibb's Hill Lighthouse, Crystal and/or Fantasy Caves, The Botanical Gardens. Take some time to walk around the capital of Hamilton, there's some construction on Front Street, but walking the laneways, streets and parks makes for a nice afternoon. Walking around St. George's is also amazing, it's the oldest part of the island (and a World Heritage Site), and you can just feel the history in the buildings and the laneways. My biggest reccommendation would be to take a ferry ride around the Sound, as close to sunset as possible. It is just a really great way to experience the beauty of the island.

For saving money, get the transportation pass and use the buses and ferries as much as possible. It's cheaper than renting a moped (and safer) or taking a taxi, and the transportation system is pretty great. Just remember to say "hello" or "good day" to the bus drivers, and if you are unsure where to go ask them, they are more than willing to help. Don't eat out at too many restaurants, they are pricey. But pick at least one splurge meal, you won't be sorry. If you like Thai food there is a place called "Silk" on Front Street in Hamilton that is amazing. Or if you like Italian, La Trattoria (also in Hamilton) is my all time favourite (we had our wedding dinner here). Shopping is fairly pricey as well, but you can get some good deals on linens and crystal. Don't go expecting to find bargains or bartering, you won't find them.

oooh...I let myself get carried away. OOps! Where is your ship docking? How long are you docked?

I think I should stop there for now...feel free to ask any questions though! I'll do my best to answer them.

Have a great cruise!

Thanks so much! Now I'm even MORE excited. We will be there for 2 days...doing a 5 night cruise out of NJ. So two sea days and 2 days in port.

Will definitely check into all your suggestions!

Very much appreciated!

Bermuda is beautiful! I would fly there in a hearbeat again. Our cruise...not so great since we returned in Hurricane Gloria, LOL!

Rent mopeds and cruise the island, it's magnificent.

Please be careful in Bermuda - the island is having a rash of gun violence right now.

I would stick with areas well traveled by tourists, and during daylight hours.

Sorry - I agree it is a beautiful place, but having many social and economic problems right now.:sad1:

We went on Explorer of the Seas on a 9 day Eastern Caribbea/Bermuda cruise. We were only in Bermuda for a day but it's beautiful! Try and go to Horseshoe Bay, it's a stunning beach.
