Anyone ever check a bag that has a case of water in it?

We bring a Britta water filter and re-fillable bottles...
light weight and works for us!

I was waiting until someone posted the message you posted. Glad you don't bring bottles of water in your airline luggage to the Disney resorts. How much does that Britta filter weigh and how big is it? I'l bet it doesn't weigh as much as a case of bottled water.

We actually have a jug with a filter that will hold a gallon of water... all told dry weighs less than a pound probably less than a 1/2 a pound. We also have a filter made for the water bottles. Takes up about the same space as a water bottle. It is made for hiking - very lightweight!

I didn't realize that Hess was an option - but that is now my new plan! I was comparing a $3 case of water brought from home to paying $2-$3 per bottle of water in the parks. Checking an extra suitcase doesn't really seem like that big of a deal to me compared to saving $70. Thanks to the poster who filled me in about Hess! So, it is just across the street from the BWI?
Yep...walk out of the front doors at BW, and down the sidewalk. Pass the security shack, keep walking. Stop at the street, look both ways, again, cross, and there's the Hess Station. I've never had any issue crossing the street. It's pretty straight there, so you can see any cars coming.

We've checked a case of beer, water, half a ham, liter and a half of wine, same size of vodka, no problem. Of course, those were separate bags on separate trips.

Yikes!!! That's a fair amount of liquid. Glad to know it wasn't all on one trip. I've brought down a bottle of my favorite wine very well wrapped, and there was that Dasani bottle full of Grey Goose a few years ago, but no way am I bringing a case of water.

Someone on my last trip packed soda - as it exploded all over my and several other suitcases- so glad to have my things ruined for stupid, cheap people!

I've had my suitcase arrive very damp...thank heavens it wasn't completely soaked. But I now pack more and more in ziploc baggies. People just don't seem to care how and what they pack. It's a lot of trouble to properly pack a bottle of liquid for a checked bag!!!

A case of water will weight about 26 lbs, before you factor in any packaging to prevent leakage. I personally don't see the point of bothering with something that can be purchased once you arrive.

I can see her point of doing it - SW doesn't charge for a 2nd bag so no cost there. Once she drops it at the airport, ME will deliver it to her room, plus she has an empty bag for the flight home to fill with souvenirs. Seems like a no brainer - no need to waste your time walking to a gas station and no need to haul it back to her resort.

Except that if and when one of those bottles breaks open or the luggage is crushed and the liquid spills all over someone elses luggage. Wrapping it up good will help ensure it doesn't happen, but again, there are no guarantees.

Yes, there's also no guarantee your shampoo bottle or mouthwash won't get damaged either. And there is no guarantee you won't get hit by a car crossing the street to the Hess station to get your water - it's all relative.

It's a little easier to securely pack a bottle of shampoo, mouthwash, etc then it is a case of water, and there is a lot less volume then a case of water (and yes, water can ruin clothes).

I had a bag and some clothes ruined by some idiot who brought wine back from WDW. When we got home to Dallas and my light colored duffel came around, we immediately noticed the wet stains. As we got it off the carousel, there was a couple standing right next to us. The lady made a comment that she hoped it wasn't their wine bottles that broke and messed up our luggage. Her husband elbowed her very obviously and told her to shut up. Sure enough when their bag came around, it was wine soaked worse than ours.:rotfl: I asked if they would like to reimburse us for our stuff and the man sarcastically said that the airline would take care of both of our bags, since it was their gorillas that threw his bag around so rough and broke their bottles. He swore they had packed their wine bottles very well.:rotfl:

It's a question of weight. A suitcase full of water (a case) is going to weigh a fair amount. When that suitcase it tossed around, and it will be tossed around, that weight is going to work against itself. It's going to be different if you have a shampoo bottle, all nicely packed in a ziploc baggie (which most of us here do), that is packed in with clothing that will absorb the shock of tossing. You start tossing that suitcase with a case of water in it, and when it jars and bangs against something hard, one(at least one, if not more) of those water bottles is going to pop!!

I'm sorry but it makes little sense to me to cart down a case of water. You aren't going to a third world nation here. If you don't want to walk to the Hess Station, then you can arrange for a grocery delivery...you can get more food/snacks in addition to your water, delivered right to your resort room.

You should invest in lock 'n' lock containers (they sell them on qvc) Best item to ever buy. If you get the larger ones you can put your bottles in them, and lock the lid and it will protect the bottles. Plus if the bottle itself started to leak, the containers are leak proof. I live by these. When we decide to go back to disney, I will be packing sodas and water in my luggage and using these containers.

I had no clue what these were, so I went and looked at them and they are basically sealed tupperware. These are not designed to take a lot of impact abuse and I could easily see these cracking. Remember, a rigid item has two options when pressure is put on it, the bend of break. Although, plastic will often bend, it will break, especially if pressure is put on the weaker edges.

The company doesn't advertise these as an alternative to storing items when traveling and I see no reason to believe these would handle a lot of abuse.

Whenever we do not have a car we always stop at Hess for water/ beer. There is another Hess station across the street from DTD/ Pleasure Island bus stop area.

These things can handle tons of abuse. And regular tupperware you cannot put liquids in where they won't seep out of the sides. I have had mine since they started making them. They have been through the mill and back and still don't leak:thumbsup2 I would still wrap the bottles in plastic ziplock bags and then put them in the container.
