Anyone ever bought a "good food box"

Apparently it is a box of local grown food, that costs $13 and is about 20-25 worth of food if you buy it in the grocery store.. I am thinking of trying it to see what it is like and just wondered if anyone here has done it.. It is not just for low income anyone from anywhere can buy a box, it is cheaper by $3 if you are on any type of government support but normally it is $13.

Just moved to where they have or should say had them. Bought twice. They are good but remember you get what you get ie. cauliflower and you may not like cauliflower. They are only $12 here. They are now discontinued as problem with organizers. You definately got your money worth.

We used to get this and it was EXCELLENT! Really helped me out with food bills, and we enjoyed trying new foods. When we picked them up, there was always a box of "traders" so if, for example, there was cauliflower in the box and you didn't want that, you could trade it for something you did like from the trader box. We could also get an extra bag of fruit for $5, which I usually got.

The only reason I stopped was that the place where we had to pick it up changed twice over the years I was doing it, and the last place you had to be there at a specific time (3:00 in the afternoon) (they wouldn't hold onto it if you wanted to come later) BUT sometimes the boxes would arrive late so you had to wait for them. So some days I'd be there from 3:00 to 5:30, just waiting for the boxes to arrive and that got really frustrating - I needed to be working! So we stopped, but if I can find another spot to pick them up again, I'd like to do it again.

We definitely got great value for the money. I priced it out a couple of times at the grocery store and the food would EASILY have cost two or sometimes three times as much. They also included tips on how to store the food, how long things would keep, and recipes to use them up.

I couldn't find a list of where is was available. I would be interested in fruit and veggie. Can you go as needed or is it a weekly thing?

There is a list on this page, you can tick Ontario or rest of the country and go from there, I would like to find a drop off on the mountain.. there is one in Hamilton but it is down near Mac that is a LONG drive!

In Guelph (where I live) this was organized through Public Health, so you could try calling them in your community to see if it's available. It was only once a month here, and you had to order at least a couple of weeks in advance (and pay at that time). Then you could pay for the following month when you picked up your box.
