Anyone ever been put in handicapped room when you didn't need one?

actually, yes. Long time ago we stayed at the All Star Music and we got a handicapped room. I didn't care - it had a king size bed. No tub, just a stand up shower but that was okay with me. We did check in real late, I guess they didn't have any non-handicapped rooms left.

I was in a HCA room once, and I had no problem with the room. However, when I took a shower the water flooded the entire bathroom as the drain wasn't functioning properly. Turned me off of the roll in shower concept. They fixed the problem, and i stayed in the room, but I'd rather have a tub.

It isn't just the issue of the shower. At OKW the one bedroom has two doors connecting the bathroom to master bedroom and the main living area. The handicapped configuration only had one. That means all traffic for the bathroom must go through the master bedroom. Not great for privacy.

I'm not sure if that was a function of the handicapped room or the building you were in. The first buildings at OKW were built with only one door to the master bathroom. When they started building the next group of buildings, one of the few changes they made was a second door into the master bathroom.
So, if you are staying in buildings below 21, (I think that's the right number) you will find only one way into the master bathroom and will have to go thrru the master bedroom.
If you are staying in building 21 and higher, you will have 2 doors - 1 comes from the master bedroom and the other goes thru the laundry room. I'm not sure if the handicapped rooms in buildings higher than 21 have 2 doors or not.

some of you ask what is the big deal? well when your paying $500 nite for a room and don't get a daybed which you wanted your son to sleep in, now that is a big deal. Now if I was only paying 1/3 that I wouldn't complain. But seeing how I wanted deluxe, booked far enough in advance, I should of gotten a regular room.

plus I hate the bottom of the showers in the HC rooms. hate the feel of the tile..it skeeves me.

I was under the impression that none of the 14th floor concierge rooms at CR have daybeds. The occupancy for those rooms is only 4, not 5 (which means that we can't stay 14th floor without putting out the money for a suite).

Beth,

my first time 14th floor. when I went back to concierge and asked for the room with daybed, she said there were none available. So I was under the impression they did have some. Maybe I am wrong.

I did get a rollaway though for my son. The room is quite large so there was plenty of room to still walk around in.

And yes the water does flow from the shower to the bathroom floor. We had to put a handtowel down. Drainage is not the best

When I booked SOG, the only rooms available were handicapped rooms. Has anyone stayed in SOG handicapped rooms? :earsboy: :earsgirl:

You must be a messy showerer. Having used the HA rooms at the CSRs, the showers have never got our floors that wet.

I was given a handicapped room at POR, building
14 or 15, 2nd floor. It was just OK, BUT
no matter how carefully I showered, the entire
bathroom was completely flooded. That could have been dangerous. I didn't complain, because I wasn't sure if it was my fault or not.

Yes. We did not car for the bed level or the shower/bath.

Oh, well, life could have been worse.

lindsaydunn,

A MESSY SHOWERER!!!!

I take total offense to that..
being as that you have not stayed in CR, you have no idea.

so do not speak unless you were in my room

As I stated before, I had a lovely time, but for my $500, I should not have been put in a handicapped room

contrary, if I was paying $150 at POR, it might not have been a factor

Yes, last August at the Poly. Spent our first night of a five day stay in a handicapped room. It was in terrible condition with stains on the carpet and the wallpaper pealing from the walls in the bathroom with black mold behind it. The closet door louvers were also broken (apparently from wheel chairs running into them). Not a nice situation for the handicapped.

14th floor concierge

view was absolutely breathtaking though,

AFAIK there are only around 4 non-suite rooms on the 14th floor. I think you should have been given the option of downgrading to a non-concierge room, with a lower price but I'm not sure what else they could have do done for you.

We had a HCA room at Pop and I take quick showers and pretty much stay put in place and still the floor quickly got wet and spilled over towards the toilet. We always had to put a bunch of towels down. But we dealt with it and still enjoyed the king size bed (much lower to the ground of course~ had to get used to that) and the fridge.

We had one at AKL for about 5 minutes on our honeymoon...

I am a total bathtub girl, so we changed it.

We're staying at WL this fall...and I'm going to ask for a king bed at check-in. If we get put in a HC room, I'll decline. I'd rather be squooshed in a queen size bed with DH than give up my bathtub.

My husband went to the desk to see what he could do and explained that we really would rather have the Woods view we paid for then the upgraded courtyard view on the 1st floor where everyone who walked by could look in. Within minutes we were moved to the 6th floor -- connecting rooms -- with a view of the Magic Kingdom, the Contemporary, Fireworks and water parade.

I do believe that my husband had the magical touch :wizard:

unfortunately, it has nothing to do with magic. I haven't experienced this at WDW (that I can recall).

But in other situations, especially on the phone, where I fail, my husband always succeeds. And it doesn't have anything to do with how nice or not nice we are, or what we say. They're accomodating the minute they hear a man's voice.

as someone already said, human nature.

The most recent time at All Star Music seemed to be a partial HC room. It had the lower peephole and sliding bathroom door but it had a bathtub in it. I was a little surprised by this but it was a nice stay and a spacious room.

There are different types of handicapped rooms. Only some are fully wheelchair accessible with the roll in showers. Some have bathtubs with grab bars and most people would not realize they even have a handicapped room except for noticing little things like you did.

There are also handicapped rooms for people with hearing disabilities. The only difference between those and a standard room is that they have bright flashing lights for the fire alarms and they also have a doorbell by the door that flashes different lights if someone rings the doorbell.

So, many peoplehave probably gotten handicapped rooms and were not aware of it at all.
