Anyone ever been a Nielsen family...

for Nielsen Media Research?

Had a woman show up on our doorstep the other night rattling off this spiel about how our household has been chosen to be a Neilsen family for the next 2 years. They want to come out and hook up devices to our TVs so they can monitor what we watch and we will get paid periodic "incentives" throughout the 2 years. Seems to be on the up and up but sounds almost too good to be true - getting paid to watch TV. LOL!

We haven't committed to this yet but are seriously considering it. Just wondering if anyone out there has ever participated in this and what they thought about it.

We actually did something like this. Can't remember who it was for - but ours was for a shorter time and they did not hook up moniters - we had to log everything we watched. We thought it would be a good chance to let them know there are those who want quality programs. It ended up being a pain in the neck - lots of paperwork and the one show we watched fairly regularly went off the air shortly after - guess we didn't influence that decision much

I've never been lucky enough to be chosen as A Neilson tv family. But, from what i understand your description is accurate as to how to become 1. They just show up and ask if you wanna do it.

BTW, they rate more than TV shows. They also have a grocery rating program kind of thing, My aunt was in this for awhile but had to drop out because she got sick and couldn't do her own shopping for a long time. But they gave her a monitor and scanning equipment. But instead of paying her cash they had a bonus program where she got so many points and redeemed it for tangible goods.

But I say if you watch a lot of tv then go for it.

we did the journal thing as well, they sent us a letter in the mail asking if we wanted to participate. my mom wrote back saying yes, and they gave us a log for each tv in the house. when someone watched tv they had to write it down in the log book. I'm almost positive it was also a neilsons thing. I think you might as well do it, even if you weren't getting paid you still get the opportunity to let them know which programming you think is good and which isn't.
