Anyone else's room at POFQ look crummy?

On our last trip at POFQ (the end of January '08), we stayed in building 7, and we were extremely disappointed in the way the room looked. The carpet looked really beaten down and frayed, the tile in front of the sinks and in the bathroom/shower area looked nasty, like as much as anyone might try to scrub they would never really look clean. The cabinet door for the fridge compartment was literally off its hinges, and even though we called for it to be repaired, it happened the next time we opened the door. We kind of gave up. Now, that being said, the trip before (May '07) we were in building 4 and did not seem to have any of these issues.
Is it just a matter of what building you get? Or is the whole place getting icky?
Comments? Opinions?

I figure that with the turnover of rooms on property and amount of time maintenance has to make repairs, we overlook alot of the small stuff. I can remember along time ago when staying at most any motel along the Florida coast, you never had room choices, locations and views, you got what was available and just stayed in that room, good or bad but by todays standards, bad. What choice did you have? I think now a days people have standards far above what can be produced. We've had the resort room at WDW, just had our 40th stay, mostly all deluxe, small rug stain, some dust, vaccumming so-so, tile so-so, bathroom okay, but all useable. I know we pay a preminium for the room but we expect some things to be iffy but just go with the flow. If there is a major instance, we bring it to the attention of the desk staff and have and gotten it taken care of but all in all, some 35 years of doing WDW, all our stays have been first rate compared to other places in the USA.. I can't make judgement on the values or mods but the deluxe resorts have met our expectations 95% of the time.

It's a bummer when your room isn't as expected. Last year while we were staying at the GF we were supposed to have a magic kingdom view room. For what we paid, I was very disappointed. Not only we were off to the side (as opposed to a head on view which I assumed we were getting) but there was a tree completely blocking our view. Of course we waited until the fireworks started to make sure we truly couldn't see, but when my 4 yr old started crying cause he couldn't see, we called and management provided a new room with a somewhat better view.

I would agree with the last post, Disney far exceeds most hotels and resorts. Thats part of what brings us back. :cutie:

We just had an awesome room at POFQ! We were in building 5 and had no issues with anything. Sorry about your bad luck getting a not-so-great room.

Yeah, we were there first weekend in Feb. this year in build. 5 and our room look brand new.:thumbsup2

I'm starting to think it is a matter of which building you are in and how recently they have been refurbished. I usually do go with the flow, but as this was our 7th stay on-site, I am kind of used to the minor issues with all rooms. But this time, for the $$ we paid, it was disappointing to us.

I am sorry - but I must disagree.

Disney hotel rates are not comparable to outside the parks - and the rooms generally are smaller and offer less than rooms outside WDW. Hotel management is a business. When things are shabby or broken, they must be fixed --- because tomorrow something ELSE will break or look shabby. Other hotels manage it. Disney's problem is drastic cuts in staff which make it far more challenging to maintain their hotel standards.

I just checked.....

Staybridge Suites - 3/4 miles away from DTD

1 Bedroom Suite
* 2 rooms - sleeps 6 (2 queens & 1 sofabed)
* 2 televisions
* full kitchen
* full hot and cold breakfast buffet (expansive buffet)
* free shuttles to all WDW parks

* Almost comparable to a DVC 1 Bedroom Villa but sleeps 6 vs 4

* March 1 = $ 136 + tax

Port Orleans Riverside (not a fair comparison to a 1 bedroom suite)

* March 1 = $ 199 + tax

For the $$$ they charge, the resorts should be in top condition - after all, that's their business - they should SET the standard, not fall below it.

It's a business.....others do it very well for less.

I'm sorry if some disagree - just my personal opinion as a consumer.

We felt the same way about our room at POFQ. Our carpet was dirty, the room smelled musky, the bedspreads were stained and the bathroom needed a good cleaning. My sister-in-law had connecting rooms with us and her room was in about the same condition as ours. We were in building 2 or 3 facing the pool. I know that this can happen anywhere but when you are paying $208.00 a night for a hotel room, it is disappointing.

I do agree with you. I generally get a better deal than most posters due to great discount opportunities but still, they are setting the standards, not following up. I have worked hospitality for a while now, and they are seeming to slip for the money that most posters are paying, especially during peak season. But, you also have to figure in the amount of gas money you save by not using a car or money being spent on parking at the parks.

But, still, there is a lot of money being spent to stay at a value. However, in WDW's defense, there are a lot of people (children especially) that damage the property and do not report it and that in itself is a HUGE loss to the company every time someone spills something on the carpet and tries to cover it up. Every time someone steals something or disregards the fact that the hotel room, regardless of how much they paid for it, does not belong to them so therefore, should WDW start charging more to recover the damages left by inconsiderate people? Or should the people be billed for their damages?

Unfortunately, it is a he said, she said, and WDW is on the losing end of that stick.:confused3

We were at POFQ the last week of January to 2 Feb in building 2, second floor facing the tiered fountain. I will say our room was in super condition & immaculate. It was our 1st stay @ POFQ & we were very impressed.

I do agree that WDW needs to be sure there is enough trained staff to maintain the rooms. Whether you are paying $49.00 nightly offsite or the sky's the limit, there is no good reason not to maintain an IMMACULATE room. Now maybe there can be wear at the low end price level, but that doesn't mean it can't be tidy & clean.

Sorry you had such a shabby room, but I hope you enjoyed your stay despite that :thumbsup2

We stayed in bdlg 5 in Feb 2007, and our room was great! Sorry that yours was in that condition. I probably would have asked to be moved to another room if possible.
